President’s Essay Contest

Final Winner

The final winning essay from the Tewksbury Library / Tewksbury Women’s Club President’s Day Essay Contest appears below. Once again, we offer congratulations to all the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who entered the contest.

George W. Bush
43rd President
by (name witheld), 5th Grade

It is hard to write about a President who has only been in office for thirteen months, but President Bush has done so much for our country so far. On September 11th, a terrible tragedy happened. Terrorists, known as Al Queda from Afghanistan, decided to crash our planes into the Pentagon and the Twin Towers, known as the World Trade Center. President Bush immediately responded to keep our country safe. He got our military ready, and sent Special Forces to Afghanistan. President Bush appointed Tom Ridge, who had been the Governor of Pennsylvania, the head of National Security. He also called upon every country to join forces with us and in his words “you are either with us or against us in fighting terrorism.”

Like most Americans I was very scared and couldn’t imagine what was going to happen next. President Bush went on television and made a speech to calm us down and to let us know that every thing was going to be alright. It didn’t make a difference if we were Republican or Democrat; we were all part of the same country. We all hung our nation’s flag to show patriotism and we were united. As a country President Bush got us to pray with him. For all the years I have been saying the Pledge of Allegiance they seemed just words to me, but now President Bush made me realize what the words really mean.

President Bush was sworn into office in January of 2001, in Washington, D.C., and he still has three more years to serve. I wonder what he will be doing in the rest of his years. I feel so safe now after what he did for our country, and I trust that my dad, going to work in New York every day, will be safe too! President Bush has made me proud of him and living in this great country.

This is from a local township paper, no link is available. This being the internet and all, I thought it's not my place to publish the 5th grader's name.

But I did want to post this as an example that there are plenty of good kids out there.

Thanks, good read. This kid is smarter than 90% of voting Dems (Dems notoriously have 10% deads voting).
