That Damn Little Car (Lucianne.com says check out Freerepublic.com)

That Damn Little Car

We have been running an annoying ad for General Motors. Annoying, at least, to those of you who don't know how to disable it. As we don't know what kind of computer every individual has, we are recommending, those of you who don't know how to adjust your settings, ask someone who does. The ad will run for another week or so and we can live without the E mail about it. We privately fund this site so that we can provide it to you for free and while we most appreciate your contributions they, in no way, cover the heavy expenses involved. Lucianne.com, like hundreds of other sites on the web, (not to mention magazines, newspapers and television) need ads to survive. If you can't get someone to show you how to adjust your machine, simply click on the car and it should go away. The only other alternative is for you to do the same and check out other excellent sites with our mind set such as Free Republic, WorldNetDaily, Newsmax and the incomparable National Review Online. But, brace yourself, Bridget.........they have ads too.

Not constantly, no. Lucy is trying to thin the herd at her site.

During fundraising and radio shows on threads is about it. It's a whole lot better than popups.

I believe many of the ads are for freerepublic related, such as Radio-FR and the like.

Even the car is better than those unrelenting pop-ups.

The car actually interfers with their script and the site in general- Free Republic is the epitome of conservative
web forums and her site simply copped onto the genius of FR. I wonder how much Lucciane herself spends on the site. There is no end to the pop ups on her site as well. There is little excuse for the gross commercialisation of her site. She remains an opportunist- ask Linda Tripp (who for those of you who might have forgotten and to whom we owe our continued thanks.

that's a bit odd... telling people to disable the ad they are getting paid for?

I've never seen an ad on FR. That is one of the beautiful things about this site.

I don't mind single adds at the top of the page like Drudge has.

I don't like windows popping up int he background or
windows that float by while you are trying to read a page.

Somebody must have snuck in and "adjusted your machine".

How right you are, Pappy. I downloaded a free Pop-Up Stopper in my computer that works great!!!It zaps all these popup windows whenever they show up.

I use a multi-tabbed version of Internet Explorer called Crazy Browser that blocks 99% of popups all by itself.

I know it sounds "crazy" but I would recommend everybody try it if you use IE 5 or higher.

What do you mean by the remark, "ask Linda Tripp."

I know she and Lucianne aren't particularly close anymore. Really, they never were.

Lucianne gave Linda some good advice. If I recall, she told Linda to urge Monica to keep the dress.

I always go to the Lucianne site in the morning because her shortcuts column is great.

I see no point in attacking other conservative websites. Free Republic is my favorite and it has many advantages over Lucianne, but we can use all the conservative sites possible and the more popular the better.

Anyway, don't we believe in the profit motive. I know I do.

The car is dreadful. It disables the posting mechanism. I just disabled it via my IE controls.

IE5
Hit tools -- internet options--security tab
custom level
scroll down to 'active scripting' and disable all 3 choices (active script; allow paste operation via script; script java applets)

apply and close

The trouble is that this will probably disable other stuff that I like. Lucianne says that the car is on there for another week, or so. So, I'll wait a while and re-enable my commands.
