FYI and discussion

For the "artsy" crown a crucifix in urine is OK, but not a depiction of a black man by an artist.....

Well, I do have to say that the sculpture looks pretty goofy.
But then again, I chalk it up to the sculptor's artistic license.
Looks like some folks are gonna try to get it revoked.

IMHO, they have a point. This relief does make its subject look like a monkey.
What on earth was Zampino thinking?

What on earth was Zampino thinking? That he could get a lot of publicity by doing something controversial.

I'll second that. The so-called "rendering" is atrocious.

It reminds me of something: Mayan art perhaps?

It reminds me of something: Mayan art perhaps? It reminds me of something like that, now that you mention it. In this case, the combination of style and subject is most unfortunate.

And at the Westward Expansion Museum in St. Louis, Thomas Jefferson is represented as someone seeking the nearest NAMBLA convention. (BTW, this statue is even more gruesome in person.)

I don't think its a good illustration, but then it doesn't look that different from a lot of Grandmas Moses' work to me.

Crap called art is still crap. There should be no government subsidy of art.
