Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said that a few days ago a senior Palestinian official called him and suggested that the two sides resume negotiations, Yediot Aharonot reported today. "I offered my readiness to meet with him," Sharon said in an interview that will be published on Friday. Yesterday, Sharon announced that he would allow the Palestinian Legislative Council to meet next week in Ramallah.
Sharon did not say who the senior Palestinian official was. Previously he has stated that he would not agree to talks with the Palestinian Authority as long as terrorism continued. At the end of March, Sharon met with Palestinian Legislative Council Speaker Ahmed Qurei (Abu Ala), Yasser Arafat's deputy Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), and financial adviser Muhammad Rashid, in talks that his aides insisted were not diplomatic in nature.
