The Picture In My Classroom
Tomorrow a new school year starts. When my students come into my classroom and are seated, they will see at the front of the class a beautiful water colour rendition of the 3 NY firefighters hoisting the Stars and Stripes over a smoldering WTC. I hope it generates some discussion because I have made up my mind that I am not going to hold back. By the way, there is also a Canadian flag for my front desk, something that is missing out of too many classrooms today.

This makes me proud to be a Canadian.

I just hope that the fire fighters have been digitally altered so that one is a female asian, one transgendered, and one is a black guy in a wheel chair.

Good for you. So many teachers get slammed on FR, it's nice to hear about the good teachers that are still in the profession. =)

Whoops! I just realized after I hit the "post" button that you weren't the person that wrote this. LOL.

There are good teachers out there, as Blackadar is proving.

on sept 11, my high school is doing a silent walk thru our neighborhood. we will carry a 700 ft banner of fabric over our heads that goes from black to multicolor.

Well, here's hoping all the best for you and your students.
I fear that a teacher that would put up such an image in a public school here in
Los Angeles would be on the evening news and subject to a lawsuit by the ACLU and
accussed of injuring the self-esteem of all her/his students from other countries.
(I may be exaggerating...but sadly only a bit.)
By the way, here's a salute to your Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry
and their snipers that pulled some American chestnuts out of the fire in Afghanistan.
I told my relatives in Sherwood Park that I hadn't realized that they
had a group of stone-cold "serial killers" that trained in their neighborhood.
Being a real Canadian, my uncle tried to downplay the accomplishments of the PPCLI.

I used to live and work in Sherwood Park before I moved into the city, Edmonton. I figure Blackadar will get some flak, but she appears ready to take it in the fight for liberty.

There are good teachers out thereThere are in fact many. If we could just figure out how to keep the rest of them away from the credentialing process we'd be home (no pun intended) free.

I had a kid named Osama (no kidding) in my college class right after 9/11. I guess he didn't like my patriotic statements and webpage, so he dropped. I thought he acted weird about a few things, so I discussed it with the person in charge of foreign students.
Count me as another patriotic teacher. And I also love Canada, where I studied for several years.
The teachers I know in computer science are conservative.

I've got an uncle, aunt (mom's sister) and cousin in Sherwood Park. The cousin teaches
in Wetaskiwin (sp?).
Been over 20 years since I've been to Edmondton; beautiful town, loved the
Muttart (sp?) Conservatory/Greenhouses...and it sure beat the heck out of being in
Oklahoma in the middle of summer!
Getting to sit on the front porch and seeing the northern lights also was very cool.
Thanks to Jimer for the PPCLI flag. On a few occassions I've had to remind
a few freepers that we do have some good friends from Canada (PPCLI, HMCS Halifax
and Vancouver) going in harm's way.
Oh, and if you ever see me post something about the USA having goofed by not having
grabbed British Columbia and Alberta, please do understand it's just because those
places are so beautiful. Cheers!

Are you a teacher in America? If so, is there an American flag in your classroom? I don't understand why you say there should be more Canadian flags in the classroom.

What does this stand for? How come they get out of schoolwork..shouldn't something like this be done after classes? I could see a moment of silence ...but a walk through the neighborhood?
