During the last two months, the campaign committee of incumbent U.S. Rep. Sherwood L. Boehlert, R-New Hartford, has raised more than twice the money of his Sept. 10 GOP primary opponent, Dr. David L. Walrath of Sennett.
Boehlert and Walrath are vying in the primary for the newly created 24th Congressional District, which includes Cayuga, Seneca, Tompkins and Oneida counties.
The Friends of Sherwood Boehlert Committee received $51,563.93 in contributions from July 1 to Aug. 21, according to the pre-primary financial disclosure reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission.
Boehlert, a 20-year incumbent, had $488,226.16 in his committee treasury before July 1. The committee spent $362,669.18, leaving a balance of $177,120.91.
The biggest contributors to Boehlert during the reporting period were BAE Systems North American Political Action Committee (PAC) of Arlington, Va., $6,500; American Dental Association PAC of Washington, D.C., $6,000; Republican Pro-Choice Coalition PAC of New York City, $5,000; Verizon Communications Good Government Club, Philadelphia, Pa., $5,000.
The only two contributors listed from Cayuga County were Paul Lattimore Jr. of Auburn, who gave $500, and Michael Vitale of Auburn, who gave $300.
The David Walrath for Congress Committee received $23,261 in contributions since July 1. The committee had no money before July 1. According to the report, the committee also borrowed $25,000 and has spent $11,508.57, leaving a balance of $36,752.43.
A host of $1,000 contributions were received during the reporting period.
Those contributions were: James, John, Mary, Thomas and William Brod, individually, each $1,000; Eva and Frank Fera of Verona; Carol and Keith Johnson of Oneida; Dr. Aio and Audrey Lukula of Auburn; Eileen Ward of Vernon; James Wurz Jr. of Sylvan Beach; Remington Arms Co. PAC; Felix Conry of Staten Island; Thomas Conway of Kingston; Lori Hougens of Lansingburgh and John MacDougal of Oneida.
Richard and Nora Ricci of Seneca Falls each contributed $1,000 worth of in-kind printing services.
