A little off-topic here, but this again illustrates why it is important to regard certain rights as 'inalienable' (God-given). If government can grant rights it can also take them away.

You can "regard" all you like, but as long as the government, by virtue of widespread support from the people, retains the ability to prevent you from exercising rights which you regard as "inalienable", your regarding is pretty meaningless.
