Indonesian Muslim leader warns US over Iraq

Hasyim Muzadi, the chairman of Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama, said the group strongly opposed any U.S. attack on Iraq.

"We totally oppose a U.S. attack on Iraq. What would it be based on? There's never been a clear argument from the United States, and even their allies oppose it," Muzadi was quoted by The Jakarta Post as saying on the sidelines of a seminar on terrorism in Jakarta. "If the U.S. strikes, they will lose significant value as a democratic country, and we will protest," he said.

Nahdlatul Ulama is said to have some 40 million supporters across the archipelago.

Muzadi said he had conveyed his stance to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell when Washington's top diplomat visited Jakarta on August 2 and promised Indonesia US$50 million to help its security forces fight terrorism.

Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation and expressions of hatred against the U.S. flourished following Washington's and its allies' attack on Afghanistan.

Then you can get one from me:

Saddam is killing off your muslim-brothers (Iranians, Saudis, Kuwaitis and Kurds) and oppressing them. Doesn't the koran say that muslims should fight oppression?

Mulims only get upset when Muslims are killed by non-Muslims. Saddam's killing of other Muslims is purely an intramural activity.

The Syrian regime murders 20.000 fundamentalists...
Saddam Hoessein butchers countless Shi'its and Kurds with poison-gas...
In Algeria and Afghanistan there are people being massacred...
The Americans launch cruis-missiles at the Taliban...

(the crowd screams "muslims are being killed!!"

Thanks for the ping!

"We totally oppose a U.S. attack on Iraq.

And we should care....why?

What would it be based on?

'cause we want to. Any problem with that, Hasyimie?

There's never been a clear argument from the United States,

If Hasyie would listen for a change, he might hear one.

and even their allies oppose it,"

No, they don't oppose it, they just want to grab as much oil from little Sadie Hussein as they can.

"If the U.S. strikes, they will lose significant value as a democratic country,

So?

and we will protest," he said.

Go for it, Hasie!

OK, just exactly how many countries does that make warning the US not to attack Irag? I mean today alone -- it must be a half-dozen.

Have we heard from the Elbonians yet?

They had a hard time making the press conference due to delays caused by slow going through the mud.

Well yesterday, the Chinese, Romulans, and Vulcans came out against an attack on Iraq, but the Klingons are spoiling for a battle and are ready to join us, as are the Borg thanks to the Bush/Borg Queen treaty.
