California Correctional Peace Officers Assn. donated $320K to Gray Davis' campaign raising the total contributions to $1,014,000 since he took office making the association the largest contributor. Davis signed legislation this year granting the union's members a pay raise of as much as 37% over 5 years.

The best governor money can buy. Does the phrase "quid pro quo" ring a bell with the CA State D.A. ?

Yeah, but Bill Simon is a Gray Davis clone and is not sufficiently anti-gay rights enough for most on this website./sarcasm

Talk about "buying votes"!This A*SHOLE Takes IT A STEP FuRTHER!!HE "BUYS CONTRIBUTIONS"!!!I hope his contributors have a nice private cell waiting for him!!!!

Yeah, but Bill Simon is a Gray Davis clone No. He is still by far the better choice.
and is not sufficiently anti-gay rights enough for most on this website./sarcasm
Unfortunately, he may not be if recent news proves to be true.

My post is in jest. I firmly support Simon, however on a recent thread about Simon all I heard was how he wasn't conservative enough so everyone was going to show Simon by not voting for him and handing the election to Davis. I don't see the logic in this or how it serves the purpose of conservatism. There are some around here that look for the perfect candidate and when they don't find him/her decide that instead of finding the best thing availible they will take their ball and go home!! I don't understand it.

raising the total contributions to $1,014,000 since he took office making the association the largest contributor So?
That doesn't mean there is a connection between this & the new prison guard contract. And you can't prove any connection between this & the closing of privately run prisons. /sarcasm

Well, there goes the "convicted felon" vote for the Democrats!
To: RANGERAIRBORNE
Okay I give up...maybe I have my dense helmet on crooked... pardon the pun... but who is the "convicted felon?" or am I not aware of something that everybody else already knows...signed, Confused

Does anybody know the answer to this question: If the State doesn't have its budget in time, do the guards get real money or I.O.U.s when the funds run out? That raise they bought might not be worth much if Davis doesn't get the Dems in the legislature off their cans.

Gray Davis has a very cynical prison policy. It isn't being tough on crime, it is being a class A butthole. He wants ticky tack offenders kept in jail, so we built more prisons. He gets a ton of lucre from the prison guards to ensure he keeps his policy going.
His other big thing is refusing to sign pardons even after the pardon board grants them in obvious cases. My favorite latest case is him turning down a guy that had been recommended for release by the Warden, the parole board, you name it. This prisoner was at home one day, when his brother in law asked to catch a lift. The brother in law said he needed to pick up some money somebody was paying him for to do a hit. This guy thought it was a joke, took him along, and a few weeks later, the brother in law actually did kill the person.
This prisoner was charged as an accessory. He has spent over 20 years in prison, where he has earned two degrees, has taught over 1,000 prisoners to read, and the only blemish on his record was being disciplined for fighting back, one time, against somebody who jumped him over 10 years ago.
The warden wanted him released, the parole board wanted him released.. Davis, schmuck that he is, kept him in jail.

My dad (California prison guard) is going to freak when I tell him this one .... LOL
To: Redcloak
Okay, okay...call me naive but convicted felons are not supposed to be able to vote...and I know that was a problem at one time. Although I seem to remember reading somewhere where there were some convicts voting...has that issue not been solved or is that still an issue???

Well your dad should be ecstatic about the pay raise although if Simon is elected I wouldn't advise he go out and spend the raise. With a 23% budget deficit even if the Dimwit is elected there are no guarantees he will get the raise. Can't get blood out of a turnip... not even a turnip grown in CA...

If the turnip was educated in a California public school? Then the above point is void..........

No way I can't believe the good governor would take money from a group of state government employees that he controls the budget for. It must be the same correctional peace officers association that sells drugs to inmates, organizes prisoner fights to the death, and runs the largest penal system in the world.

No problemo...you got here just in time...I've been fighting off the various pessimists from CA and elsewhere. I will turn over the watch to you. We had some pretty good news today as you will see from the pings. Next week is when the race begins and it looks like Simon is behind by only 11 points give or take the margin of error. I like where he is and given we have more than 2 months before the only poll that matters we should be in very good position to DUMP DAVIS! Taking off for the weekend. Have a Happy Labor Day!
