Simon Vows to Promote Statewide Gay Pride Day and Award Rights of Marriage to Gays and Other Cohabitants
Sacramento - In a shocking announcement, gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon has committed to support several components of the homosexual agenda. As published today in the San Francisco Chronicle, Simon submitted answers to a questionnaire from the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans of California. In his answers, Simon said that if elected governor, he would proclaim a statewide Gay Pride Day, empower homosexuals in the Republican Party and award additional rights of marriage to "domestic partners" and other unmarried cohabitants. The Republican candidate also said he would not repeal or modify laws signed by Governor Gray Davis to facilitate adoption of children by homosexual couples. Simon spoke about his domestic-partners plan yesterday on KGO Radio in San Francisco.
"This is such a shock," said Randy Thomasson, executive director of Campaign for California Families, a statewide nonprofit, nonpartisan family issues leadership organization. "Why has Bill Simon chosen this path? We already knew Gray Davis' record of undermining marriage and promoting the transsexual, bisexual and homosexual agenda against average families. We never would have believed that Bill Simon would sell out on this key family-values issue. But it's true."
Simon's new-found support for "domestic partnerships" and "adding rights" of marriage for unmarried couples is a contradiction of his Marriage Protection Pledge. Signed with his own hand on February 6, 2002, Simon said he would "refuse to support 'domestic partnerships,' 'civil unions,' or any kind of relationship that compares itself to the sacred bond of marriage between a man and a woman."
"Gray Davis has shown himself to be corrupt on family values, and now Simon has shown himself to be untrustworthy on some of the same vital issues," said Thomasson. "Bill Simon has put pro-family voters in a very difficult position. It's very sad that voters are left with two candidates for governor, both of whom would undermine marriage and promote the gay agenda."
In Simon's questionnaire that he submitted to the Log Cabin Republicans of California, he said as Governor he would:
Declare a statewide Gay Pride Day: "In June 2003 I will sign a proclamation declaring Gay Pride Day."
Support "domestic partnerships" and award more rights of marriage to unmarried cohabitants: "I am supportive of the concept of a domestic partnership law...I believe that any two people who fit the qualifications of the law should be able to have their relationship recognized by the state...I would not support undoing any of the rights that currently are available under the law, but I believe those rights should be extended to others as well. In addition, I would be open about adding rights and responsibilities as would be appropriate and justified...I do believe that human beings enter into relationships with other human beings and that some of those relationships are deserving of recognition...in order to allow two individuals who have established a strong caring relationship to more fully function within that relationship."
Empower homosexual activists within the California Republican Party: "I support the continued recognition and involvement of gay Republicans in state party activities...I would back a state party charter for the Log Cabin (Republicans) of California."
Simon's new-found gay agenda is especially surprising given the history of another statewide Republican candidate who signed a pledge to support the gay agenda four years ago. Nine days before he lost to Barbara Boxer in the 1998 U.S. Senate race, Matt Fong signed a pledge to support much of the agenda of the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans. Fong's campaign consultant, Sal Russo, is also the main consultant for Bill Simon.
Campaign for California Families has tracked how the Governor and individual legislators have voted on the protection of marriage. While Bill Simon has signed the Marriage Protection Pledge -- and broken his pledge -- Governor Gray Davis has refused to pledge to protect marriage. This isn't surprising given Davis' record. Over the last three years, Governor Davis has signed into law major pieces of legislation that undermine marriage. This year, Davis promised gay activists that he would try to bring "civil unions" (Vermont-style homosexual marriage) to California.
In 1999, Davis signed AB 26, which established a statewide "domestic partners" registry and required taxpayers to fund marriage-equivalent benefits for homosexual partners of state employees.
In 2001, Davis signed AB 25, which awarded over a dozen rights of marriage to homosexual "domestic partners."
In 2002, Davis signed two bills, AB 1330 and AB 1684, which awarded additional marriage and family rights to a segment of state employees' "domestic partners." In addition, the Governor has established a special task force to review how to enact a "civil union" law to bring Vermont-style homosexual marriage to California.

Simon just couldn't help himself.
He had to go and pander to the LCR's. In so doing, he deflated his base at a critical moment in the wake of Bush's visit to CA.
Every time you think this guy is on the verge of coming back, he finds a way to screw things up. First, he allows Davis to define him. Then, he allows Davis to run scurrilous ads all summer. Following that stroke of genius, he is too cute by half with his income taxes. Then the Pacific Coin case comes down, surprising the President and the White House staff who, apparently, were caught unawares.
Nice going, Bill.
Now this. I have no bloody brief against gay men, as long as they don't try to get into my briefs. But trying to pander to the Bay Area in the hopes that you'll reduce Davis' margin there is tap-dancing stupid. All he has done is to make sure that a critical number of base Republican voters in the Inland Empire and Orange County will stay home.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Once again, Simon finds a way to be a and blow a Chinaman's chance to get back in the game.
Jesus God Almighty, WHY ARE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICANS SO STUPID?!!! YOU PEOPLE GAVE US RONALD REAGAN, FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!
Is there some sort of stupid disease that has taken hold of the California Republican leadership? Did all the brains in the California Republican Party leave the state when Condoleezza Rice moved to D.C.? Good Godawmighty, I guess so! Just when George W. thinks he might have a chance to take a state that he could use in 2004, this fellow Simon runs and proves that he has a secret to getting to elective office:
Folks, if you are a Republican, you never pander to the base Democratic vote. Gays are base Democrats. They live in constant fear that a Republican President or a Republican Governor will take away their precious right to cornholio and to have same accepted by the larger kulchur.
Republicans need to be who they are. If gays want to join the party, fine. Me gots no problems. Blue laws can't be enforced anyway, in large measure. BUT DON'T PANDER TO LIBERALS WHO AREN'T GOING TO VOTE FOR YOU ANYWAY!!!!!!
God, this is so basic! Braindead, braindead, braindead!
I had a bet with Coop that I would buy him a six-pack of his choice and UPS it to his address in CA if Simon found a way to dig himself out of the hole he's in. Now, I think I'm going to win my bet.
The sad thing is, it's a bet I really, really, want to lose.
Oh well, perhaps the Simon campaign can come roaring back...
Then again, perhaps not.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
It makes you wonder if people will be as angry at Davis as they were at Jimmy Carter in the last two years or so of his administration.
After massive CA income tax increases, the SUV tax, the auto registration tax, handgun licensing, restrictions on CO2 mandating the use of public transportation, not to mention the bankrupt treasury as a result of massive expenditures on energy during the first Davis regime -- and probably the second the way Simon is self-destructing -- do you suppose people will be mad enough to elect a conservative?
Probably not. Probably Bill Lockyer -- that wonderful guy who gave us handgun licensing -- will blame it all on George W. Bush when he (Lockyer) runs in 2006 and declare that all Republicans are bigots, racists, sexists, fascists and hate-filled homophobes who want to starve old people and throw widows and orphans out in the street. And people will believe it. It worked before. It can work again.
I don't know what's happened to this state.
Like me? Where in all my posts due you see hypocrisy and self righteousness?
If anything, I would rather take a more humble position of letting those who know more on an issue to enlighten me.
Except for the occasional shoddy attempt at witticism for the sake of irreverent humor, my posts reveal my earnest desire to express my opinion with the assumption that I could be, and am willing to be, corrected if wrong.
Being grouped and tagged a bigot only brings about stiffed necks and dug in heels. Generally speaking, the tactic of slinging around labels in knee-jerk fashion fails to inform or enlighten. It has been my experience that that is the typical approach of liberals.
If you disagree, bring something substantive to the debate. I promise I will consider your point of view with just as much gravity and honesty as I would some one who is as much of a "gay bashing, immigrant hating, self rightous, bigoted, nutcase, extremist" as I.
Aside from that, you do not possess enough intimate knowledge of my fundamental beliefs, personality, attributes, or anything else that makes up my character. Therefore, you are utterly unqualified to determine what I'm "like." Please.
Your intent is quite clear thank you.
It is not to late, to WRITE In "the person" who could have WON all along!!! BILL JONES!!!!!! The only reason he wasn't the Republican choice, is because he backed McCain.
So what!!!! He developed THREE STRIKES, which we totally agree with!! As citizens,..We haven't broken ONE strike in the law, is that good, or is it bad?!!!! So why shouldn't we punish people who obviously don't understand the magnitude of THREE strikes against humanity???? He/JOnes understands the fiscal problems with California more than anyone!!! He was the comptroller, and was DIRECTLY responsible for budgets in California. Problem was, with a Democratic Governor/Davis, and a predominantly democratic legislature, he was up against the republican choice,..that was Riordan, and then Simons.
I honestly question, Riordan, or Simons. Why? Because Jones, was truly the person who could have beaten them both HANDS DOWN~~~ he had his three strikes down policy which made a huge amount of common sense, and he is just a person who could NOT have been besmirched like Simon was/is.
We both wrote to the white house about this, but we realize how busy the President is, and the rest of our administration. They OWE nothing to us, even as veterans, we just bless them in their endeavors, and support them with all our hearts, and souls. We BOTH would willingly volunteer today, as we have already stated in writing, to our government.
I'm exhausted, but when all is said and done, "Write in"!!! "BILL JONES"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It could be done, and we could win. But unless people start to e-mail everyone we know, Davis will win. Trust me on this. I would never have dreamed that Davis could win, but he is going to win!!! Can you friggin believe that???? Unless we all finally get off our dead butts for a change, and I would hope 9/11 made us all realize our responsiblitity, then we either should keep our mouths shut *especially after Clinton... or vote, and that means getting OFF our dead behinds, and voting, and feeling good about having done so. It is the least we can do as citizens, especially in light of the sacrifices of our troops and agents.
God Bless all of you,... and may he please guide your concious thinking, through this, the most important time in our history.
From two people who served you willingly, because we love and believe in this counry with all our hearts. As do those who are willing to sacrifice the ULTIMATE as I type.
GOD BLESS EVERY AMERICAN PATRIOT!!!! YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS!!
No Coop, I haven't been against Simon. I wanted him to win the primary, remember?
This kind of pandering is infuriating to me. Simon will get enough gay votes out of this to fill a telephone booth, perhaps. If Gays have to choose between a liberal panderer and a conservative panderer, they will choose the liberal panderer every time.
But how many Republicans will stay home because of this dunderheaded blunder?
With the shape Simon's campaign is in, one Republican staying home is too many.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Deception deja vu. Why has Bill Simon chosen this path? For the love of money is the root of all evil...
I don't have to wonder what comes next. Any Christians still living in California better hide themselves or start looking over their shoulders.
This is the technique of liberals to capture the vote and approval of conservatives and suck them to the liberal left. It, is also the same technique false prophets use in churches. Michael Bloomberg (NY) got in by switching parties and getting people to think he was conservative. Then he brought out all of this liberal policies and is pushing for 1) no smoking anywhere and 2) approval of homosexual marriages. This is more of the Hegelian Dialectic...i.e. devices of the devil.
They don't need justification,they are bible-thumpers.
Free will is one of the foundations of all western, republican (small R) freedoms. So I ask a very basic question: why ought we to restrict this very basic and very precious freedom? Is there a justification?
Basically, you are dealing with people who DREAM of living in a theocracy, where the gooberment is ran by religious leaders who dictate to everyone what they must think and how they must live.Or more correctly, how everybody ELSE must live. Add to that their natural(?) hatred for homosexuals, and you have issues that fire them up.
In short, they don't WANT "Free Will" because it scares hell out of them, and if they don't want it for themselves, they sure as hell don't want YOU to enjoy it. Misery, fear, and ignorance enjoy company.
HOW? Do you think they can "draft" you to play for their team? Seriously? If you are not already either homosexual or bisexual, there is absolutely NOTHING they can do or say that will "eradicate humanity" by "recruitment".
Sounds like a VERY conservative position to me. He seems to be saying he thinks people have a right to live their lives free from government interference. In what kind of alternative universe do you live in where the conservative position is the gooberment gets to dictate to people how their live their private lives?
