Resist no more. Any Mac users holding out against upgrading to OS X can now safely give up the fight. Jaguar, the latest version of Apple's new operating system released on Saturday, Aug. 24, is spectacular. It's arguably the best OS ever released for personal computers. Fast, stable, elegant, and intuitively easy to use, OS X makes owning a Mac once again a mark of distinction.

could you please post info on the network connectivity between the Jaguar and Windows networks? I'd be interested in what the communications link is like and underwhat circumstances the Mac User can peruse the harddrives of PC's.

Jaguar (Jagwyre as Jobs calls it) is amazing. My favorite new item is the Universal Access feature. I am using it to read web pages to me while I working on my projects. The built-in Text to Speech is nice and easy to understand (I use HQ Victoria). I just load up the web page, do a keystroke and the article/web page is read to me through my speakers as I code away in my IDE.
Inkwell also works well with my cheapy Wacom Graphire. The handwriting recognition is much better than the old Newtons. Also the Active Directory and Windows Shares support looks top notch -- better than a Windows 98/ME machine. My NFS mounts in Jaguar are as fast as my Sun E250s.

Active Directory and SMB work perfectly and with little or no configuration. NFS, WebDAV and , of course, AppleTalk(IP) work perfectly. I use all these network mounts for my work. They even have a feature that creates ftp conenctions like it was a mounted server -- nice integration into the file system -- they need to add scp to the mix.

A stunning and certainly series leap in technology!

Good read! I just recently got a PowerBook and have finally been able to use and appreciate OSX. Before that, I was reluctant to switch from OS9. Now that I've gotten used to the X interface, I'm ready for Jaguar!
BTW ... anyone know how well Jag would work on a good old G3 (blue and white)?

Runs fine on a B&W G3/400. I've had OS X on mine since 10.1. 512k is the recommended memory for OS X
To: Vermonter
does this mean an end to 'type 11 errors'? or those sappy 'sad mac' or 'bomb' icons?
