I guess Joan is at war with herself, then. With her remark about her retirement account, she sounds like another rich person with a guilty concsience about her success.

Hmm ... I interpreted it as a subconscious admission that she's a greedy harridan who's pissed off because she played all the "sure bets" during the late '90s fraud bubble, and now has to pay the price because she didn't cash in when things reached blatantly unsustainable levels. There was far more domestic greed and global unrest during that time - the CLINTON Administration, of course - but back then she was perfectly happy, because she was sharing in the greed. Karma's a bitch, ain't it Joanie?
