PORT BYRON, New York (AP) -- A man who admitted he operated a lawnmower while drunk was sentenced to a year in jail after showing up intoxicated for his court-imposed community service.

PORT BYRON, N.Y. - Call it a lesson learned: Friends shouldn't let friends drive the lawnmower drunk.
Michael Kocur, 39, admitted in court he was drunk when he was stopped by police on an upstate New York road last July. It is Kocur's fifth drunken-driving conviction.
Kocur, of Port Byron, near Syracuse, told Cayuga County Court Judge Peter E. Corning he drove the mower and towed a friend in an attached wagon as the pair picked up trash along the roadside.
"Which goes to prove," Corning told Kocur, "that no good deed goes unpunished."
Kocur pleaded guilty Thursday to felony drunken driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. When the judge asked if Kocur had a driver's license when he was arrested, Kocur answered: "I didn't think I needed one to ride a riding lawn mower."
He will be sentenced May 9.

Michael Kocur's blood alcohol level of .09 was under the legal limit of .10What, NY hasn't yet caved under the Central Government's (of-course-it's-not-a-) mandate of .08? Don't they realize they're going to forfeit a lot of Federal highway funds?
I mean, I could understand if it's West Virginia (thanks to Senator "Imperial Wizard" Byrd, the whole state's paved already). But, New York? Did Hillary! & Chucky get you a pass or something?

Thanks. Well, if he was on a public road he deserved it. What an idiot!

Mine doesn't have a cupholder, so I go for the "beer helmet" with the two cans and straws. Very classy.

Note to self, don't drive a riding lawnmower along the road picking up trash while loaded.
