"As for those Oval Office floors, they were just redone during Bush's vacation last August. Even though a rug mostly fills the room, one White House regular recalled that the president noticed with his first step inside last year that the job wasn't up to snuff -- the wood had been incorrectly stained against the grain. "

Attention to detail and high standards. What a refreshing and welcome change.

Hey you know its our government when a "Temporary structure" is gussied up for its 100th Anniversary. And with all the reporters sweating it out in Crawford, and Congress on vacation.IT probably is quiet and peaceful and will look marvelous when done.

...What a refreshing and welcome change. ...An understatement. But,,,Though I do agree with yer, how ever demonic the occupant, the symbol of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will endure and endear.

Thanks for the ping.

I find this article interesting.

Of course, the White House has to be kept in tip top shape, and that is expensive but worth it.

At least we can be proud of the occupants now, who are people who understand the significance of the White House and respect it.

By the way, it really ticks me off that the television show is titled The West Wing. Although I have never seen it, I know what it's like and when I see the words, "west wing," I involuntarily cringe thinking of the show.

It's sorta like some of the people involuntarily cringe when they think of the use the Clinton jogging track was put to, or not.

Very interesting behind-the-scenes story of what it takes to keep "our house" looking great. And such a laugh to recall the newsies harping about President Bush not taking his job seriously because he's spending the month in Texas. Shouldn't he be in the White House dodging the workers and the heavy equipment...hmmmmm? NOT giving statements from the first tee, heaven forfend!!!

It's an almost daily treat to watch the press consume itself with its nonsensical sophomorishness. And a REAL daily treat to watch this administration in action.

If I remember correctly, the last "Major" major renovation of the White House was done by Harry Truman. The House needs work. Truman actually had much of the interior gutted due to massive termite infestation.

It is the people's house. The president just lives there 4 to 8 years. I have no problem with it being spruced up every now and then. We also have to consider it is not just the president "living" there. Some aides spend 16 hours a day, 6 days a week there. Why not give them an attractive work place?
