[history]
There have been days when grief overwhelmed her, when she had no way to cope except by crying, but now Nancy Dick has a mission.
The way Dick sees it, seven weeks after her oldest son, Daniel, was killed at the Halona Blowhole while on vacation, she needs to convince state officials to install a grate over the landmark so no one else will die there.

What's next?
Stop the flows of the waterfalls so they won't fall on someone and drown them?
Another idiot-bitch from California wants to change the way Mother Nature does business after her genius son spreads his body over a million year old geological formation and is blown up and then sucked down to his death.
The Laws of Natural Selection again exemplified, and another candidate for a Darwin award...

her 18-year-old son's memory demands nothing less. Her 18-year-old son's memory doesn't demand anything. But her 47-year-old guilty conscience does. She's seeking to make something meaningful of something meaningless, and she wants everybody else to share in her grief. THAT'S the legacy she's tying to her son, not something noble.
Apparently her grief is as selfish as her life.

I wonder how you would react, if this had been your son and somebody made your comment.
After reading your profile page, I agree that the truth is out there, and so is your spelling.

I went to Yellowstone last summer and some idiot (adult) walked right up to Old Faithful one night, maybe they should plug it up.
To: Vidalia
While he sounds like a nice kid who just did a stupid thing. It seems that the town should at least put a fence around the hole. What if someone happened upon it on a moonless night?
Can anyone find a pic of this thing? I am afraid I have never seen a blowhole before.

http://www.hawaiiweb.com/html/halona_blowhole.html A blowhole is a lava tube under the water and at the perfect height for waves to be driven into it. The water is compressed as the lava tube becomes smaller and smaller causing the pressure to increase forcing a stream of water to shoot up to thirty-feet into the air. Be extremely cautious around the blowhole.

Let's cork up Old Faithful as well. It's OK for stupid people to wander in dangerous areas, and when they're hurt of killed, put the blame on someone else.

Attempting to put a grate on the blowhole would be more dangerous than leaving it as nature intended.
Regardless of efforts to anchor it, the Venturi effect and power generated by the lava formation would blow that grate high into the air depending on the surf conditions and thereby becoming a missile of sorts.
If her idiot son was so smart, why did he not know the basic physics of the Venturi effect?
Bet this now dead mental giant knew why Heather has two mommies, how to "properly apply" and use rubbers and what corporations are the biggest environmental dangers to the planet...

Be extremely cautious around the blowhole. Someone should have told that to Monica.
To: IronJack
You have it exactaly backwards. She wants to make the place safe so NO ONE will ever have to suffer the pain that she is suffering. That is a perfectly normal reaction & it motivates all parents who have lost a child. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem like an idea that will work. A big sign warning of the danger or a fence would be better.

Thanks for the link and pictures.
Maybe this will give those who want to defend the dead boy's actions a sense of how stupid his actions were in the first place.
Again, this is common sense...
