[history]
City officials issued two dozen change orders to the construction contract for the Marine Education Center and related improvements at Hanauma Bay, sending the project 23 percent over its $10.6 million budget and prompting the City Council budget chairwoman to schedule a special hearing on the costs.

Hopefully, this trend will be reversed in November when Linda Lingle wins.

Amen to that, but she still has one of the most corrupt Democrat organizations called the Legislature to deal with.
I'm pretty sure she will recieve more help than she knows after she is sworn in...

Why the hell do they need an education center at Hanauma Bay for anyway? Seems like a waste of money. Why would you want to spend time in some reeducation center when you're right next to some of the best easily accessible snorkling on the island?

Hawaii....the most beautiful place on Earth...tourists out the wazooo....and they STILL have to tax the hell out of the natives....incompetence
but in all fairness, many of the Hawaiians there still haven't figured out that socialism is desolation.

It is commonly known as "payback" to the construction unions for supporting the various state and local Democrat office holders.
Hundreds of "no-bid" contracts are REWARDED to the various unions by the state, county and city (Oahu is a commingled mess of County and City since the island is so small) by the various Planning and or Engineering departments.
It has been the Democrat way things have been done since the end of WW2.
Akaka and Inouye have been well versed in the "Old Boy system of Hawaiian politics, especially Inouye...

"... many of the Hawaiians there still haven't figured out that socialism is desolation ."
That is a fair statement, but the actual population make-up of the residents of the state of Hawaii are, by order of ethnicity, Caucasian, Japanese, Chinese, Phillipino, various others with the actual "Hawaiians" at the bottom of the list.
Most "Hawaiians" you see on TV or the big screen are Hollywood fiction, for the pure of the race is in steady decline...

Hanauma Bay project costs extra $2.4 million I'd read that Hawaii was about as corrupt as they come -- hard to believe, compared to what I've seen in MA and VT... but, yeah, okay, I am persuaded. No Hawaiian vacations, now or ever. I just returned from a business trip there - Waikiki is boring, over-heated,over-humid, over-priced and totally self-centered. There are MUCH better (non-beach, non-tourist) vacation places in Mexico... but I'm not saying where.

Hopefully, this trend will be reversed in November when Linda Lingle wins. I sure hope so. But then she'll have the entrenched legislature to deal with.
