This is a good point that deserves to be expanded upon. I've given this a lot of thought since I've heard Saeb Arakat and other Arafat apologists make the same claim.
When Saeb Arakat says "1 settler = 1 suicide bomber" the listener has to ask themselves what is a thing, in and of itself?
1) These settlements are people, families, mothers fathers, brothers, and sisters living in houses and building their homes. Nothing more nothing less. Reasonable people may dissagree about where these families should build their houses, but that's a zoneing dispute, and little more. How do YOU settle zoneing disputes in your town? Do you strap a bomb on your 15 year old and send him to your neibors house to kill their kids because he got an illigal variance for his new deck? Of course not! You make your argument to the zoneing board, sometimes strenuasly, but NEVER with force! It's just not a pragmatic way to solve conflicts.
2) A homoside bomber, on the other hand, willingly, knowingly, and intentionally has the sole purpose of killing inosent people, defying the trust given to him by the comunity in which he lives, in a misguided hope that CNN will grant arafat just one last interview.
Item #2 is a crime.
Item #1 is not.
