Black Demonstrators Demand Slavery Reparations

Barron, a self-proclaimed "elected revolutionary," said if the government did not act swiftly he personally would storm the Treasury Department ( news - web sites) and take the money for reparations.
Black activist Louis Farrakhan told the crowd, "America owes the black people a lot for what they've endured."
"We need land for political independence, we need millions of acres," Farrakhan added. "We need payment for 310 years of slavery, of destruction of our minds and the robbery of our culture." {/B>
The United States, torn apart by the Civil War, abolished slavery in 1865. Some people argue that even 137 years after abolition, blacks still suffer from the vestiges of slavery.
U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat from Michigan, urged blacks to press their elected representatives in Congress to deal with the issue of slavery reparations.
"We want reparations -- not next century, not 10 years from now, but now," Conyers said. "These wrongs can only be corrected in the House of Representatives, only Congress can do what we want now. All congressmen ought to be here today."

"Soul City"...........hmmmm............sorry, hon; doesn't ring a bell...........????

Didn't Africa have a role in SELLING the slaves and starting the slave trade in the first place (and doesn't it STILL exist there in some places)? Why don't they talk about that?

Pay these people "reparations" in Confederate dollars. There's probably still enough Confederate money lying around to pay them a pretty handsome (but worthless) sum. Still, any reparations owed would be owed by the Confederacy, not the USA, right?

I think it was Mohammad Ali (maybe he was still Cassius Clay) who once said, "If it weren't for the white man, we'd (blacks) still be livin' in grass huts in some jungle!"
What would happen if Ali stood up at some Farrakhan rally and said that?

I'm holding out until one of them falls down kicking and screaming and holds his breath until he starts turning...well, black guys don't generally turn blue, do they?...but you get the idea.

I've read through 104 posts, but haven't seen anything about Farrakhan's recent trip to the middle east. Is this another "front" for the terrorists?

I just can't wait to find out what they plan to do with those of us who look WHITE but have black ancestors who were slaves. And there are so many people these days who are half black and half white. Or half Hispanic and half black. Do they get half reparations? I look totally white but can prove I have black slave ancestors. I don't think these idiots have any idea what they are angry about. IF they would spend more time WORKING instead of demanding a handout they would be too busy for all this anger..... I know I don't want any reparations for my ancestors' slavery. I am just glad they were brought to USA where I am sure they have multiplied many times over, enjoying all the good things this great country has to offer.

Have you noticed that, in this day and age, the most horrible stuff turns out to be real?

"The freak assumes there is something in the treasury he can take."It's hilarious, isn't it? The US Treasury building is at 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue and there's no money there, just a bunch of computers. What he wants is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing which is over on 14th and C Streets SW. Now, over there he could could get the plates, ink and paper! Teach a man to steal, he eats for a day. Teach a man to counterfeit, he eats for a lifetime.

And there are so many people these days who are half black and half white. Are they going to go by the one drop rule? I played baseball with some girls that were part black. Their mother had a black father. My friend had very tan skin and kinky hair. Her brothers and sister were toe head blond, blue eyes and skin so white it couldn't tan just freckle.
Reparations would be an administrative nightmare. We would probably spend more money doling out the money than money doled out.

I saw this piece of work on C SPAN. He said he wasn't a politician, he was a revolutionary. He said this time we better be thankful he was asking for reparations, because next time they were coming to Washington to storm the Treasury building and take it. He said it would be scorched earth next time, because he was mad.
I kept thinking, keep talking, idiot, because the more you talk, the harder it is for CNNABCNBCCBSMSNBC to find quotes to bolster the reparations argument on their networks. I watched enough of the mess to know that the messengers were so totally weird and out of the mainstream that even CNN probably won't show much of them.

We would probably spend more money doling out the money than money doled out.Hmm, that sounds suspiciously like every other money grab the lawyers have ever done. I guess it was silly of me to think that billions of dollars being confiscated by the government would benefit anyone other than the government.
