Oh, it's misleading, for sure. I was thinking about the substance of what Britain has done, not how this is being reported.

This is being spun as if London could be wiped out by a nuke later this weekend. That's absurd, but it sells papers.

Agreed. What the story actually says is that plans for evacuation in case of a nuke exist, and somebody's reviewing them. Blair will evacuate to Cobra.

Geez. I thought the Brits would all stand on the street and give the collective finger to the incoming missiles.

I take this very seriously. The key line for me was "Details of the exodus plans would be broadcast on radio and TV in a way which would not "overdramatise" the crisis."

I lived in the UK for the first 26 years of my life. And these were during the most dangerous cold war years. A television broadcast of this type was never shown - ever.
