Man Attempts to Kidnap Toddler
Police are searching for a man in connection with the attempted sexual assault and kidnapping of a toddler.
About 10:45 Thursday morning, investigators say there was an attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of a 2-year-old girl at a house on Fielding Street. They say there were two men involved, who are believed to have broken into the home by cutting the screen of a back window of the bedroom where the child was.
Police say the men took her out of the home to the backyard where the mother of the 2-year-old says one of the men slapped the child, took the child's diaper off.
"I jumped out the window, and he looked at me and he took off up my driveway. I jumped out the window and got my baby and brought her back in the house and as I was doing that I was screaming, telling them to go and get him, go and get him," said Nakesha Bell, the toddler's mother.
"There was an attempted sexual assault and kidnapping. The child is going to be taken to the hospital, where the doctor is going to do a complete examination to find out if there actually was penetration or not," said Detroit Police Officer Kevin Jones.
Officials still are not sure if the suspects knew the people living in at home.
The relatives of the victim chased one of the men to a nearby bank, where they caught him and beat him severely. The man is in temporary serious condition at the hospital.
A second man is still on the loose and is described as a dark, black male, who was bald. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and yellow and red basketball shorts. He had a black bag and brown paper bag which were recovered at a nearby bus stop.
