To: Neophyte
I realize now this has nothing to do with the story at hand, but I gotta say this:

I'm one of those that believes if you spend most of your life in a given country because of what it has to offer, taking advantage and enriching oneself because of what it has to offer, one should become a citizen. I have a relative who is a Canadian citizen. She has married a US citizen and given birth to two children here who are citizens. She hasn't been to Canada in decades, despite living only three hours drive from the border. They will never move there. Ever. Why not become a citizen?!!? She has nothing to gain from remaining a Canadian citizen and much to gain from becoming an American citizen. I just don't understand it.

For all practical purpose Canadians are Americans. They are the unofficial 51st state. The Western Provinces would join the US in a New York minute if able.
