Black Actors Blast Civil Rights Groups Over 'Blaxploitation'

Some of the top stars of "blaxploitation" movies have condemned civil rights organizations for undermining a nascent black film thirty years ago and putting hundreds of black actors, directors and crew members out of work. In the documentary Baadasssss Cinema, debuting Wednesday night on the Independent Film channel, Fred "The Hammer" Williamson, who starred in such films as Black Caesar, Bucktown, and Hell Up in Harlem, says angrily: "NAACP and CORE - they're the ones who created this terminology: black exploitation. That has to be clear, on the record. It came from them. It didn't come from the white press. ... Who was being exploited? All the black actors were getting paid. They had a job. They were going to work. The audience wasn't being exploited. They were getting to see things on their screen they'd longed for." Likewise Pam Grier (Coffy, Foxy Brown) recalls black critics saying "Oh, my god, we shouldn't show pimps to white America. ... They'll think we're all like this." The documentary ushers in a series of blaxploitation "tributes," on IFC, including Foxy Brown on Wednesday, Superfly on Thursday and Shaft's Big Score on Friday.

The biggest pimps are in the, so-called, "black leadership."

For once, just once, I'd like to know exactly what it is that these blacks want. They constantly contradict themselves.
I'm so con-fooooosed.

I loved "Cotton Comes To Harlem" and thought "Amos & Andy" the funniest show on TV (tie with "The Honeymooners").
And so did my black friends.

If these "leaders" would go away, America could heal.

But as the old saying goes....
"What will the Preachers do after the Devil has died?"

Did anyone see "Undercover Brother"? It looked from the ad like it had its funny moments.

The more some people protest, the more they reveal about themselves.

Whatever. I still enjoy watching Shaft, Shaft's Big Score, Coffey, Foxy Brown, The Mack, The Revenge of J.D. Walker, and Super Fly.

They may as well shut up as far as I'm concerned.

I guess to the NAACLP being shown as a black in a role that isn't a pimp, a thief, a robber, or a rapper isn't sufficiently "black." The NAACLP resents the hell out of black movies that show black people doing something worthwhile and acting as heroes for a change. To the NAACLP, being a middle class, hard working, and law abiding black American constitutes the dreaded crime of "blaxploitation."

Don't axe me.

Black people aren't the only ones who mispronounce this word. I've heard several whites say "ax" instead of "ask," too.

LOL, I happened to catch "Foxy Brown" on Television the other week. It was soooo funny. If I remember correctly this black chick cuts the "male parts" off a white chick's boyfriend and gives it to her in a pickle jar at the end for a "reminder" not to mess with her again.

It was such a horrible film that you can't help but laughing.

"Shaft". Damn, it's been years since I've seen that one.

While we're on the subject, I've always been partial to "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka". The Wayans Brothers rule!

For once, just once, I'd like to know exactly what it is that these blacks want.

That's hard, especially since they can't even get their label straight.

"Colored" went out. So did "Negro." Then it was "Afro American." Then "people of color." Then "African-American" [even if they are from the Dominican Republic]. "Black" is the only thing that has stuck, but it is still not politically correct.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
