I don't seem to recall such rhetoric in the last sermon I heard. Likewise, my Christian friends haven't related any similar diatribes from their ministers regarding the followers of Islam.
The most virulent prayers I can recall from the Viet Nam era were phrased in terms of "God/Jesus/Lord, protect our soldiers in battle", or "God/Jesus/Lord, may this battle/war end soon so that peaceful people may return to their normal lives and families", and "...receive in your loving arms those who fall in battle today."
What I didn't hear, and don't hear today, are prayers to kill all the Muslims, consume in fire and death all the Islamic Nations and, since it is within God's power to eliminate all of Islam, God should do it now!

If you don't believe that in the past, there have been leaders that asked God to smite their enemy and give them victory, then I envy you.

I agree with the recent history thing, and I apologize if I sounded condescending. I believe Gen. Patton prayed for the destruction of his enemies, as did Grant, Lee, Joan of Arc, many of the Puritan religious leaders, and probably many more throughout history.
