President Bush and former Vice President Al Gore are political big guns, but how much firepower can either one of them bring to Tennessee's two hottest fall campaigns?

The economy and his party's coziness with corporate America could dim the president's radiance some, but all of the media focus on Sept. 11 will give him an undeniable glow here and anywhere else he might hoist the banner for GOP candidates, according to national and local observers.

Here is one campaign a Presidential stop might help, Mr Lopez seeks to UNSEAT veteran income tax pusher Boss Hogg aka House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh. Boss Hogg has a huge war chest he's accumulated over the past 2 decades of not having a challenger:

LOPEZ CAMPAIGN SOARS WITH NATIONWIDE INQUIRIES ON WHERE

LOPEZ CAMPAIGN SOARS with nationwide inquiries on where to send money!

July 27, 2002 (Covington, TN)- With television coverage and radio broadcasts from Knoxville to Memphis, and all points in between, Republican candidate Antonio Lopez of Covington, is drawing wide spread support throughout Tennessee and across the Nation.

Lopez, the only candidate to announce his intent to unseat House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh in the November election, has staged a write-in campaign for the Tennessee 81st District House seat, currently held by Naifeh for over a quarter century. Local election officials describe his popularity as unprecedented during any Primary election. Voters have flocked to the polls asking for a Republican write-in ballot. Three out of every five voters are asking for the write-in ballot. Over 3,000 ballot have been cast in the early voting period, a record turnout for any early voting period in recent history.

The campaign team for Lopez has established a fund to help Tony in the forthcoming campaign, which will be tough. Speaker Naifeh has a large fund to use in the campaign; but campaign staff know they have a larger fund of sentiment from citizens who are already flooding the Email systems asking how they can help or where to send contributions. "One thing is for certain, it is going to take a considerable amount of funding to stage a campaign and to take on Goliath after achieving the Republican nomination," states Ray Dixon, campaign chairman for Lopez.

Campaign contributions can be sent to: "Friends of Tony Lopez", P.O. Box 574, Covington, TN 38019. Every contributor will receive a personal thank you from Tony.

On behalf of Tony and the thousands who agree that it's time for a change in Nashville, we thank you for your expressed support and campaign contributions.

Spread the word, the State of Tennessee will soon be on a newly charted course which parallels that of our President! Tell all your friends...we need everyone's help to oust the sleeping Goliath.

David M. DuBois Press Secretary "Friends of Tony Lopez"

The Alexander-Clement race could be decisive for TN, or it may make no lasting difference. An Alexander victory will pave the way for G.W. Bush to win TN in 2004, but a Clement victory may still NOT mean that albore will prevail in TN in 2004.
