Please post a picture of the 7.62x39 that we were shooting through your SKS last weekend. It didn't look like this to me, but I could be wrong.

7.62 X 25 Russian Tokarev is the pistol round for the Torkarev and the CZ's.
7.62 X 39 is the rifle round for the AK's and SKS's.

The reference was to 7.62x25.. whole different animal
about which I know nothing! Handgun adaptation of the NATO round, maybe...
