Wasn't it always partly that and part of it's appeal? I've been here for a while and I remember being kind of fascinated by the black helicopter stuff and I found out all about tinfoil hats. And those Quidam posts.
It used to be rather innocent, though--even the tinfoil hat stuff.
The problem isn't that silly stuff gets posted, but that along with it comes the most mean, vicious garbage you've ever seen.
CASE IN POINT: A post that was pulled earlier, yesterday or this morning, about the shooting of a cop in Ohio. Allegedly, the guy who shot the cop during the ever-popular "routine traffic stop" was one of the fringe-type FReepers. Well, because of that, the thread reporting the story degraded into a bunch of replies like "too bad he didn't take five more down with him," etc.
It's just VICIOUS, HATEFUL, SPITEFUL stuff!
