Karen Hughes is fabulous and I admire her very much. I'm so glad she'll still be with the President for two week intevals this fall.

What a catty article. I guess when there's no real substance Martha Brandt has to resort to ugly little digs.

Absolutely. If Karen Hughes were a dem the media would be fawning over her so much it would be nauseating.

But the main thrust of August is what the White House bills as Bushs Home to the Heartland return tour. This is Hughess specialty: keeping Bush in touch with average people and their issues. Hell appear at events with real Americans, as one top aide explained, and talk to them about their economic concerns. Whats with all the "quotations"?

It's called "cattiness". Please pass Ms Brandt another saucer of milk. LOL

Even though Bush has called his High ProphetWas this written by a "journalist"?
To: onedoug
Her meetings were disciplined: people sat almost at attention, there was little cross chatter and there was no leaking. No "thong-snapping"?
No "leaking", I take it no democrats were present and no ice tea was served.

LOL. Yep that is what they call her. She is a full time, feature writer for Newsweek. Of course, she does work for Newsweek....

Good news about Karen Hughes. Even better news would be the return of Peggy Noonan as speechwriter.
To: JeanS
Yes, Martha Brandt has gotten very snide and resorts to cheap shots in her articles. For a bit there, she was almost readable, but she has been writing articles with Howard Fineman, and his brand of reporting has rubbed off on her.
To: JeanS
You noticed that too. She's not very good at hiding it.

"The Republican National Committee did a focus group on the presidents vacation. Pollsters found that most people believe that the president is never really on vacation."
Who was that masked president who polled the public about intended vacations?

she has been writing articles with Howard FinemanHa! I guess she was "reminded" that her "future" depends on her "training".

Yes, I'm a Peggy Noonan fan, too. I love her sense of history and the warmth she brings to her work. But I have to say, I feel the President has an excellant team of speechwriters. They're top notch as far as I'm concerned.

I agree! Thanks for posting this!
To: Darlin'
I think "Newsweek" needs to "hear" from us via "email" about their "journalist". Darn, just wore out the quotation mark key.....
To: onedoug
"Will we be getting on with the war now?" No s#it. I thought we had terrorists in 60 countries to deal with.

With the kind of technology available today, Karen Hughes hasn't really gone anywhere...she is available to the President any time, anywhere.
Welcome to the virtual White House! ;-)
