Hospitals and physicians can share private information about a patient's health with HMOs and insurance companies without the patient's permission, the Bush administration said Friday in a decision denounced by privacy advocates.

Bush is selling out the very people who voted for him, in favor of the people who paid his way... I guess if I want my elected representatives to give a rats ass about me, I better get out there and make myself a whole lotta money....

Note the only person the article names as being opposed to the new regulations. Do you really think Sen. Kennedy cares about individual privacy? He's one of the biggest supporters of government intrusions in your and my life around.

The Clintonista-flavor privacy regulations were only a smokescreen to give government, at every level, unrestricted access to everyones medical records. They were a marvel of bueracrat double-speak. The present regulations strip out most of the government access, I think.

Is it in your interest to have to run down to your doctor's office to sign a consent form every time you need to have your prescriptions renewed? What about the person who refuses (for some odd reason) to sign a consent form? Under the Clinton version of these regs, a doctor couldn't treat that person. That creates an access to care problem. What these regs say is that doctors must share with their patients how they use their medical records, who has access to them, and what your rights as a patient are. If you disagree with someone having access to your records, you can tell your doctor, and your doctor has to honor your request. The regs revision eliminates an ackward consent requirement, one that actually could have blocked access to health care. This change benefits patients. Doctors are not required to get written consent, but are required to notify patients of privacy policies. So, what's your beef?

You'll have to do better than that! Exactly what are you accusing GW of selling out? Special interest attorneys?

You'll never compete with the giant $ of Big Business and foreign governments. The only chance we have is to outlaw lobbies. And they'll never do that. I'll vote Republican for the Senate this time, but from here on out, I'll go independent and write in all the way. I'm sick of this two party rip off. I'm convinced its the only way things will change. Independents are growing in number almost daily. If we can find a viable third party candidate and all unite behind him, we can take back this country.

HUH? All that happened here is that Bush got rid of and EO that Clinton signed and that never went into effect. Even if you make a lot of money you will still have to have one doctor knowing what the other doctor is doing or you will not be treated. That is a medical necessity. They can not treat you when they do not know what has already been found out. Or you can just pay them more money to start the process over and find out, but if they need any external lab or external x-rays etc. you are back to square one with giving out your medical records. Do you think doctors are psychic or something? They have a variety of fields because no one of them can do everything themselves. Even hospitals have specialties because the field of medicine is so large.

Also regarding insurance companies. Do you think they should just get a bill for some amount and pay it without knowing that it is their responsibility? Without knowing what they are paying for? Without knowing if someone else already paid the bill? They also have some needs to know and that requires sharing of medical records also.
