I keep reading how folks complain about Muslims not integrating well into American society. Maybe they need a little help. Could it be that they never felt welcome? I never had a problem, but then I was already trilingual and knew to shower and shave (LOL). Then the girls were poking fun at me 'coz I didn't know what a BJ was supposed to be, and when I asked them to show me they just giggled and ran away, but anyway..

I think rooting out the evil ones should be left to the professionals, with a little help from us providing a tip here and a tip there.. But the bigger job of preventing young immigrants from turning into undesirables is entirely in our hands.

Imagine being a kid and your mom and pop come home to complain how they were dissed during their day, day after day after day. What kind of adult would you become? There's where we can really help.

I do my part. I coach little kids soccer, thereby give back to the community, which recognizes me as a Turk and a Muslim, which in turn makes them less apprehensive of other Muslims. I've even got two little Turkish kids (plus mine makes three, but he's born and raised here) on my team this year. The little yanks are learning Turkish and the Turks are picking up some English..

See what I mean? It's a painstakingly slow process. We have to work on closing the gap between us, or the devil will fill it for us.

In my experience, AT, they have excluded themselves from the mainstream. Don't play with the neighborhood kids, don't go to kids parties, don't do Halloween etc.

After the September Attacks, many from India and Pakistan refused to fly the flag. How do you think the neighbors felt.
