Fire officials have announced they'll let it burn. Too dangerous to the personnel to fight it.

Incredible.
You'd think that with all the brain power of MIT, Harvard, BU, and Route 128,
there would be some sort of robotic carriage unit that could carry hoses into an area and
suppress a fire without risking human life.

I hate to be cynical, but I wonder if some officials of the firefighter assoications
(unions) might either fear or not understand the utility of such a thing.

Automated robots for firefighting have been available for about 50 years. They look like little bulldozers and trail water hoses. Nozzles all over. Much cheaper to lose than a person.

Of course these are opposed by the bureaucrats.
