Ridicule can cut two ways, as you well know, sophistry can be exposed as such and so on; i.e. questionable debate tactics can be shown to be just that and whenever they're used, whatever position is being promoted by their use will be discounted, at least by thinking and fair-minded people. I'm not interested in convincing anyone else.
