Fantastic. Part of those relics of the Monitor could be used/displayed by the Christian Scientists at their world headquarters.

Well now you see!! Giddy Dolt won't be able to fulfill her promise. Remember a couple of months ago she made the comment about the leaders in this state not allowing her to speak at the USS North Carolina and maybe wanting her to speak from the deck of the Monitor? I say we put it back and let her do it!! Two birds with one stone

A crane capable of lifting a 500-ton load was used to pull the turret from 240 feet of waterThat's a big crane!

Thanks for posting and pinging!

When I read your article, it confirmed what I thought I had heard on FOX News this week:
On Saturday, divers were able to remove much of a human skeleton found inside the turret. It is believed to be that of one of the 16 Monitor sailors who died when the ship sank in a storm on Dec. 31, 1862, and landed upside down in 240 feet of water. The lower part of the skeleton is pinned beneath one of the turret's twin cannons.
The remains were taken from the barge in two plastic containers and were to be analyzed, then buried with military honors.

Hey bro, thought I saw something about this on the news the other night... Pretty hardcore, huh. I'll be in-nerested in seeing what all they find in that thing.

August 1998 Marks the 25th Anniversary of the Location of the Wreck of the USS Monitor Excerpt:
On Friday, March 8, 1974, John G. Newton, marine superintendent for the oceanographic program at the Duke Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, North Carolina, made the long-awaited announcement that five months of analysis of underwater television pictures, photographs, and historical records had confirmed discovery of the wreck of the Civil War ironclad, USS Monitor.
