I suspect that the Puerto Ricans get the Dominicans on U.S. Taxpayer funded government programs and then pay them cash for the work they do under the table.

That's probably, especially true of Dominican construction workers and house cleaners.

If that happens, the Domincans and Haitians will make a human bridge across the Mona Channel.

That's not at all far-fetched, 4Freedom. I can picture it easily.

"It's sad that not one Hispanic country is doing well ---and it doesn't matter if they're white, brown, or black so it seems to have nothing to do with race but that culture. They can only succeed if they make it to an Anglo country. At some point you'd think they'd want to change some things in their homelands and make them a bit more liveable."

I've always wondered that same thing myself. What is it that keeps them down? Lack of education? Corrupt government taking all the $$$, or just everyone with a lick of sense just leaving?

Actually, Chile is small but overall it's doing quite well. In an area where economic instabilty is spreading (Argentina, Uraguay, Brazil) they are holding their own. I guess Milton Freidman was right huh?

As a matter of fact, I saw ants do it on the Discovery Channel.

Some of these Dominicans are so big they look like they'd float like beach balls.

This Paredes' mother, for one, would be in Puerto Rico the next day with all of her other 16 kids.

How could the United States give so many billions to the white Hispanics in Puerto Rico, every year, and so little to the dark-skinned Hispanics in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean?

This is clearly unfair, meanspirited and racist, and is an issue that should be addressed by the US Civil Rights Commission, if not by Kofi Anan and his fellow United Nations conspirators.

Those white Puerto Ricans have a superiority complex that makes them believe they are better than the poor darker-skinned wretches in the D.R. And those high falutin Cubans in Florida, with all their white skin and their obstinate refusal to accept government handouts, well we showed them. We sent that spoiled Elian brat back where he belonged - and where he will stay, cutting sugar cane for "Community Service". That's his reparations.

I can't wait to see what the U.N.'s, Jesse Jackson's and Al Sharpton's reaction will be to the news that they don't let dark skinned Dominicans drink from their water fountains or eat in their cafeterias, in Puerto Rico, because "they'll dirty them."

Imagine the outrage, if such a thing happened in the continental United States?

It looks like the Nazis fooled everybody into thinking they were hiding in Brazil.

Stopglobal asks "How can racism exist between 2 cultures who are both "Hispanic"? Or do Hispanics practice a Caste system? What is the definition of a Hispanic? Who gets to be designated Hispanic? Are rules such as those that once defined "Octaroons" officially sanctioned when determining who is a Hispanic?"-------Answer------- I think you are confusing culture ( Hispanic) with the concepts of race and or ethnicity. Hispanics much like their Anglo counterparts may be of any race, White, Black,Asian,Native and or mixtures. Those Dominicans may be the object of discrimination by White Puerto Ricans based not on their culture, or their ( Dominican) ethnicity, but rather on their race which often times may be Black. Did not White Anglos discriminate against Black Anglos here in the States?

WELL COMING FROM A PUERTO RICAN WHO KNOWS THE DIFFERANCE I CAN TELL YOU A COUPLE THINGS THAT MAKE US DIFFERENT. DOMINICANS TO BEGIN WITH SPEAK SPANISH VERY DIFFERENT THEY HAVE A STRANGE ACCENT THAT NO BODY UNDERSTANDS ACCEPT THEM. THEY ARE ALSO VERY UNEDUCATED AN POOR. THEY HAVE A CERTIN LOOK ALSO. JUST BECAUSE THEIR COUNTRY IS CLOSE BY DOESNT MEAN WE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE. OUR CULTURES ARE TOTALY DIFFERENT AND PUERTO RICANS ARE SO MORE UNIQUE THEN DOMINICANS WE BORIQUAS ARE US CITIZENS WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO STEP INTO THE MAINLAND, AND ONCE WE DO WE SHOULDN'T FEEL LIKE FOREIGNERS.

The reason that 80% of Puerto Ricans responded to being white is not because they have prejudice believes it's only because they didn't like the options available to respond in the census why don't we address a REAL problem, that of the RACIST Dominicans who treat the Haitians like crap. Dominicans always complain about they're African racial make up. All Dominicans are black or are at least half black yet they go on saying that they are Taino indians and that the real black people in the the Dominican Republic are Haitians. Dominican women spend hours straightning their hair and making their skin lighter. I'm tired of Dominicans and I personally think that every single one of them should get deported from Puerto Rico.......Why you may ask? Because they steal jobs from us Puerto Ricans......Why? Because they steal space from us Puerto Ricans......Why? Because they're lazy and love to abuse the American system by collecting welfare. If you don't believe me then take a trip to Puerto Rico. I saw tons of Mexican restaurant when the Mexican community in Puerto Rico is virtually non-existant, and I didn't see one Dominican restaurant. Everthing that comes in contact with Dominicans turns to crap. Puerto Ricans were in New York City for years.....Now they've invaded New York City and are pushing the pioneering Puerto Rican community out with their lazy welfarers, prostitutes, and drug dealers.
Open your eyes Puerto Rican and any Non-Puerto Rican living in Puerto Rico. Do you really want these Dominicans to keep invading Puerto Rico? I mean they're saying 10,000 Dominicans enter Puerto Rico each year. What's it gonna' come to? There's no doubt and that they're are invading our beautiful island of Puerto Rico and it needs to stop.
Don't label me as a racist, I'm not, I just dislike Dominicans who destroy my nation, steal jobs, and are ungrateful that we Puerto Ricans helped 'cause when they get to NYC they talk all this crap about Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rico. I'm compare these lazy Dominicans many of whom have been in Puerto Rico for years and have yet to do something with their lifes. I mean look at the Cuban community they came to Puerto Rico and they flourished and all the Cubans that arrive in Puerto Rico flourish. You don't see Cubans stealing our humble jobs because they work so-hard that they own the big companies like Doral Financial which is Cuban-Owned, like WAPA-Radio which is Cuban-Owned, and many others. I don't care if you're not Cuban all of the other people that come to Puerto Rico the Mexicans, the Mainland Americans, the Venezuelans, the Arabas, The Indians (From India), The Colombians, The Haitians, have all done something with their lifes. I'd say the only solution to this problem is militarizing the West Coast in Puerto Rico.

Thanks for your response, Boricua. I posted this article awhile back, but it deals with what is still a very contemporary subject for, not just Puerto Rico, but the entire globe.

There definitely exists a double standard in our world when it comes to leveling the charge of racism at a particular group.

I have been to Puerto Rico before and after this article was written. I have met many people in Puerto Rico and those residents that were born on the island of Puerto Rico and remain are predominantly 'white'. That 80% 'white' figure from the Census 2000 is accurate. There's no getting around it, Boricua.

IMO, poor, uneducated, black Puerto Ricans and convicted-criminal Puerto Ricans of ANY color are motivated to leave the island by Puerto Rico's 'white' elite in the exact same way that non-'white' Mexicans and criminals are being forced over the U.S. borders by Mexico's white elite.

Tell us how many 'black' elected officials there currently are in Puerto Rico's local government versus how many 'white' Puerto Rican officials there are.

Name the last 'black' Puerto Rican governor of Puerto Rico and the year he or she was elected. Rosello or Sila Calderon, maybe? Not!

Try and name a black candidate for governor, even. Carlos Pescara or Ruben Berrios, maybe? Not!

Name a black resident commissioner! How about Carlos Romero Barcello or Acevedo Vila? Not!

Name the most popular 'novella' (soap opera) on local Puerto Rican television and name the 'black' actors and actresses in leading rolls. Solome, Mujer de la Madera, who is that, Edy Gonzalez? Yeah, she's real black. sarcasm

Name a popular 'black' Puerto Rican television talk show host or hostess on local Puerto Rican televsion programs. Luicito Vigoreaux, his co-hostess Desiree or maybe the two they 'El Gorda y La Flaka', Raul y Lilly? Do they look black to you? Do they appear to even be slightly dark-skinned to you?

Have you heard the most recent jokes that Puerto Ricans tell about Domincans? They're extremely un-politically correct.

C'mon Boriqua, you're the one that needs to take another look at what's going on in Puerto Rico in respect to race relations.

Next time you visit, take your sunglasses off. ;^)

Re-read your posts. Holy smoke, if any 'Anglo' said half of what you said about Puerto Ricans or anyone else they'd be labeled a racist, skin-headed, nativistic, nazi, xenophobe by the race-baiters here on FR.

I don't know you well enough to make that decision, yet. Some of what you said was a little dicey. Well, maybe alot dicey but, for now, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt until I see more.

You say that you're against illegal immigration in Puerto Rico, New York City and the rest of the United States, for a host of what you feel are legitimate reasons, other than race?

I say, 'Join the club!'

LOL! You want to militarize the west coast of Puerto Rico?!!

You do know that the U.S. Navy was just recently forced to leave the east coast of Puerto Rico and the island of Vieques?

IMO, that was championed by Puerto Rico's corrupt politicians, because it interfered more with Puerto Rico's illegal drug trade on it's east coast and not illegal immigration on it's west coast.

What's your opinion?

Maybe the Dominicans should stay in their own country and work to improve it.

Are Puerto Rican Hispanics of a higher caste than Hispanics from the Republica Dominicana? Are Cubans Hispanic?

It's not so much race --- these aren't "hispanics", they are people from different countries and cultures. If Puerto Ricans were moving en masse to the Dominican Republic for the same reasons, the Dominicans would be complaining. It's time that people start improving their own countries instead of expecting to be handed a new country.

Maybe we should take the $20 billion dollars, statutory American citizenship and the tens of thousands of federal and private sector jobs we lavish on the 4 million predominantly white ingrates in Puerto Rico every year and give it all to the blacks, the Puerto Ricans despise, in the Dominican Republic.

In 10 years we'll see who's swimming the 70-mile-wide Mona Channel that's in between the two islands and in which direction they're swimming.

Maybe the Dominicans would be grateful enough to allow us to build a Naval training base there and not so eager to throw Molotov cocktails at our Naval personnel.

The U.S. Taxpayers built Puerto Rico's highways, schools, airports, harbors and ports, dams, bridges, electrical infrastructure, sewers and water works, the Super Aqueduct, the new $2.5 billion dollar Urban Train and the Puerto Ricans take credit for it all.

The Dominican Republic would probably look twice as good as Puerto Rico does with the same massive amount of U.S. Taxpayer's dollars and jobs as Puerto Rico has received over the last 100 years.

What was the Puerto Rican response to the statutory gift of U.S. citizenship during WWI?

Did they enlist in sufficient numbers to do their part in a world war?

No, we had to draft them.

Since then, Puerto Ricans have committed many acts of terror against America and their fellow American citizens in the name of independence.

A majority of Puerto Ricans have voted against statehood in the last 3 status plebiscites that the U.S. Taxpayers were duped into paying for.

Puerto Rico parades before the whole world, during the Olympics and at the U.N., as an independent, foreign nation, but Boricua complains that Puerto Ricans don't want to feel like foreigners when they come stateside.

That sounds a whole lot more ignorant than anything the Puerto Ricans believe the blacks in the Dominican Republic have done.

Without the United States, Puerto Rico would have been nothing but another over-populated, 3rd world hellhole.

I understand that the vast majority of the Dominican illegals in New York came through Puerto Rico. They manage to obtain fraudulent Puerto Rican documents which enable them to receive welfare upon their arrival. They also vote Democrat - somewhere around 85%.

According to the article many of them are pregnant when they come over so it's pretty obvious they're after welfare. That type has no self-control, they might not have a dime to their name but they want to start their families and have the taxpayers give them a free ride --- those kinds don't come to work.

"I don't know what to make of all of the charges of discrimination, bigotry, hatred and racism."

Look at the Bush Admin's latest policy on Illegalien apprehension and detention - sans illegal Mexicans. If this isn't a blatant racist, discriminatory act, there has NEVER been one committed in human history.

"The biggest problem is that most of the immigrants are not documented," making it difficult to enroll them in government funded programs.

Which should make it easy to deport them quickly, before they can foster an anchor baby to guarantee them socialist services.

Instead of pissing away our tax dollars in the WOsD, government should be rounding up and deporting illegal alien parasites.

How can the president openly instruct the Border Patrol to violate federal immigration law in respect to Mexican illegal aliens without fear of impeachment?

It's worse than racist.
