Rationalism seems fine and good until you consider that most people that consider themselves "rationalists" are socialists. Most rationalists seem to forget two important things that should be considered in practically every judgement; economics and evolution. By evolution I don't mean biological, but cultural. The importance of cultural evolution being that the traditions of today, so derided by "rationalists", were the evolutionary developments of yesterday. Most of todays traditions that we all deem favorable (ie two parents raise kids) arose not from the reason of man, but from the accident of cultural evolution.

Would you think that "rationalism" itself -- or the use of it to govern affairs -- is a product of cultural evolution?

Also, how does economics play a role? And, what is important about allowing cultural evolution vs. being "rational?"
