MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, N.J. --
Work on a bridge will be delayed because it is not allowed during turtle mating season.
County officials planned to replace the Cherry Hill Bridge in the fall, but state law prevents them from disturbing the area during mating season. They have not decided when the work will begin at the Montgomery Township site.
While it was not immediately known what species was found in the area, environmentalists say they likely are wood turtles, which are protected by the state. They say the work could stir up silt, which could kill the turtles.

I'm sure getting their dental work done was the last thing on their minds...
First thing I thought of, too. On the subject of bridges, though, the I-40 bridge in eastern OK that was knocked down by the barges back in March has been completely replaced by a brand new bridge, which opened a week ago. The first estimates on replacing the fallen bridge were on the order of 8-12 months. O-DOT got the job done in 4 months by offering the contractor enough incentives for him to employ time-saving techniques. In fact, he even came in earlier than the speeded-up schedule - by 10 days.
You can go the the Oklahome DOT page at THIS HERE LINKY and see the purty pitchers taken daily as they rebuild the bridge in record time.
