Haven't read the whole thread or many of the others on these fires, so I don't know if you've seen this yet. Have you seen the fire maps and all of the fire information available on the Internet?
First, you can go to the National Interagency Fire Center. They used to have a link on that home page to the fire maps, but now they don't. The fire maps are located at this website. The one I like that gives a lot of information is the active fire maps link in the middle of the page (clicking it brings up another window to select the region you want to see), but the other links have tons of pictures and maps to see where fires are burning. They are updated daily.
Broadband is very desireable as the maps are huge and very detailed. Here's the latest one for the Western states showing the size of the fires in Oregon. It is a huge file that takes a while to load, even with broadband.....
