Mainstream media news from Israel and Palestine leaves me fearful and despairing. Thank God for independent media, for these letters-to-the-editor, for my friends who have been there. They can tell the stories of joint Palestinian/Israeli peace groups, of courageous nonviolent efforts.

OKay. Kidding.
Seriously, however, why would independing media be more comforting? Because they tell you everything is OK?!?!
Obviously not. More likely because they fill your self loathing held with lies and anti Americanism. And nothing comforts people like you as much as anti americanism.
But even hearing the voices of sanity and reconciliation, I still want to numb out.
Which you probably do with a dog eared copy of "Workingman's Dead" and a couple of kilos...
In fact, I think you must have "numbed out" before you wrote this thing.
On June 17, a baby girl was born to my friends Ellen and Peter. A week before, women gathered with Ellen and men with Peter, to bless each of them and the baby-to-come.
Amazing how this supposedly "enlightened" liberal partakes in ritualized sex segregation in a manner that would make the Amish proud.
When I asked Peter what kind of support he needed, he said, "Work to make a peaceful and just world for this baby."
When I asked Peter what kind of support he needed, he said, "Work to make a peaceful and just world for this baby."
You couldn't just buy him a gift, ya cheap b@$tard... ;-)
So, a blessing for Peter, Ellen, and their baby. And for the Israeli and Palestinian babies. And for all of us who suffer not only the violence in the Middle East, but the violence in our hearts, our felt disconnection, the loss of our Earth.
Uh, he asked you to "work" for peace, not write letters to the editor. Oops I forget with your ilk this is work.
There's much that can be done. I believe that an international presence, an international conference....
Funny, that sounds a LOT like the type of Vietnam style occupation that you people usually freak out over...
...and ultimately the end of Israel's occupation of the West Bank would help reduce the violence.
A better way to reduct the violence would be for...are your ready...the Palestinians to STOP KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE!!!!!
I wonder if there might also be some everyday things that, as we go about our activities, embody the peace and justice we seek. Like remembering the sanctity of every human being...
Except when abortion rights are involved, I'm sure...
the sacredness of the natural world.
Yeah, right...there's nooo violence in nature....sheesh....didn't this moron ever watch "Animal Planet" or even "Wild Kingdom" as a kid? There's more violence in "the natural world" in any given second than in most "civilized" societies in a month.
Or listening to people more deeply without so quickly coming up with our ready-made answers.
Oh, please. This entire letter is little more than a series of strung together cliches that liberals spew as "ready made answers" to everything:do it for the children, grassroots activism, international conferences, Israel out of Palestine, environmentalist dogma. About the only one you left out was blaming everything on Reagan and/or "Dubya." And THAT was probably because you were too numbed out by the end of the letter to remember to include it.
Maybe a large part of our task is to enter our suffering and transform it, so that the babies of the world will have a happy and safe future.
The best way for YOU to end OUR suffering would be to shut up.
For the Children.
By the way, if you do a Google search for this guy you will find that, in addition, to being a longtime lefty he is a--no shock here--school teacher and former member of the City Council.
Once again, the types marginalized anywhere else are lionized here in Ithaca, the City of Evil.(To order "Ithaca is the City of Evil" merchandise, courtesy of FREEPER "the," Click Here).

Typical liberal. It's all I, me, myself. Self-centered, self-absorbed, and therefore having absolutely NO impact on events other than to make themselves try and feel better.
Gradually, they will all congregate at these two enclaves, and they can simply talk amongst themselves, leaving the rest of us alone.
You are, of course, welcome to relocate out here in my part of the country, where people like this are laughed at (except in Bloomington, home of my alma mater IU and our local nut-case factory).
I once heard someone refer to the IRS as his spiritual guide. Meaning, for example, that if at a certain job he got his pay garnished, he'd take it as a sign to leave that job. A little strange I think. But my trip of living below taxable income is a little like letting the IRS determine my income or jobs. It still sounds bizarre as 1 write about it -- not healthy -- and l can remember many resentments. Why would anyone give the IRS (or US government) any spiritual authority?

BARF! I suppose they will all join hands and sing kumbaya.
I will say this for Ithaca. It is a long way from Texas, and every commie there means one less here.
Yes, but as one who recently moved to Ithaca (voluntarily), watching these libs in person is fascinating comedy. They take themselves so seriously and they are so absurd.
They are overgrown children, still without a clue.
Ya know, maybe I'll start a Conservative tourist business here to show non-locals around, kinda like a guide in a zoo.
Name it "The Rolling Freak Show".
Guide: "On the left you will see the green-red-anti-globalist-gay/lesbian-bitch patrol. Please keep your hands and arms inside the van. These liberals are known to bite!"
Bob Dylan had the "Rolling Thunder Tour" for a fair amount of time in the 1970s.
Maybe we can call this "Rolling Dunders"
Liberals like Dylan. They should be honored.
;-)
I believe that there is little evidence that these things will make a difference in the middle east, and years and years of evidence to the contrary.
I believe that no amount of wishing for world peace will make it so, only action will change things.
I believe that someone who is convinced that blowing up innocent civilians is the right thing to do will not change his mind because of any amount of talk.
I beleive that you may protect your children with good wishes if you like, but I will protect mine with force.
I believe that this kind of self congratulatory delusion is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
Sounds like the author has a head start; from the neck up.
OMG, you've been to Ithaca, haven't you!?
