The victims of confessed serial killer Coral Eugene Watts will be remembered at a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard.
The event also serves as a call to action, said Andy Kahan, director of the Houston Victims Assistance Center which is sponsoring the event along with Justice For All.
Watts pleaded guilty to burglary in 1982 in return for immunity in the slayings of 13 area women. Suspected in more than 80 killings, he is scheduled to be released from prison in May 2006.
Kahan said the survivors of Watts' victims will be on hand to mark the 20th anniversary of his conviction. Petitions asking the governor to form a committee to study Watts ' case and come up with a way to prevent his release also will be available for signing.
More information about the event can be obtained by calling 713-247-1410.

The prosecutors screwed up...they "Failed" to list the "water" in the bathtub that was being used as a "murder weapon" as the "weapon" (no kidding) therefore he was sent away for assault and burglary...
He then copped a plea (confessed to a bunch of murders)...and had all murder charges in Harris county dropped...so off he went to jail...and he will be released in a few years...
He has one strike against him tho...he confessed to a murder that WAS NOT in Harris county...so technically he confessed to a murder he has no immunity to...BUT those IDIOTS lost the evidence in that case...so with all the good intentions...he will be a "Free Man" with a promise...to "KILL AGAIN"...his words...and I suspect he is counting the days until he can lurk the streets kidnap, assult, rape and kill another woman...
I'll try to find some links for you to read...

If "Wayne" is the most common middle name for criminals, is "Eugene" the second commonest?

Unbelievable story, I didn't remember all thoes details even tho I remember this guy well. I remember being surprized he didn't use an insanity defense. Anyone who hides in the bushes with a machete & jumps out & chops a perfect stranger to death has to be nuts. I seem to remember thats what he did to a woman jogger.

Is this an issue our group can adopt?? My daughter will be 16 when this self-confessed murdering animal gets out.
TheMom and I attended the service and there was much pain on display.

Eaker,
My father was murdered in his home in Memorial on 12 May 1992, the case is unsolved. This one needs to be attacked at several levels including those cases this guy was never charged with.

The web site posted by WSGilcrest has info and a link to the petition.
Today I sent emails to all the Houston area Representatives (those that have email addresses) asking them to do something and tomorrow I plan to send emails to all Texas Representatives.
As an FYI, on June 17, 2002 William Wayne Justice signed a one page order dismissing the entire Ruiz lawsuit - maybe that will give some weight to this great state to be able to keep this animal locked up.

My only contact with Mr. Williams was when he was a Rice student Physical Education teacher at Johnston Jr. High, where I was a student. He impressed me as being a quality person. Herbert Wisenberg, Houston

Something is deeply wrong with a "Justice System" which
would release this freak.. Death Row material, if you ask me.

Something is deeply wrong with a "Justice System" which would release this freak.. This is the same justice system that put me in jail for having a revolver in the building where I worked so I could defend myself against monsters like him. Go figure.

Eaker,
Given our recent email conversation I don't know if I should thank you, or ignore the sarcasm. If this is sarcasm then ..... well you work it out. If it's heartfelt then my thanks and now you understand how the most innocent of comments can be misunderstood!
To: HoustonCurmudgeon
I would say the statement was heartfelt.

For you to imply that this is sarcasm goes beyond the pale and speaks untold volumes about you.
