"The claptrap taught in most state-approved driver's-ed courses suggests that it's sound policy to occupy any lane on the freeway — provided you are doing the lawfully posted speed limit."

This is news to me but it's been a few years since drivers ed. There certainly are many ignoramuses out there cruising in the left lane, making everyone pass them on the right.

I had no idea that this was caused by liberal PC. Can someone explain why it is PC to block the passing lane? The best I can come up with is that getting passed might hurt your self esteem. Or that its not fair that some cars are faster than others. Or that passing cars are going too fast so they use more than their fair share of fossil fuel thereby hurting Mother Earth. Or that passing causes global warming . . .

I used to think passing someone on the right was a form of insult and I'd avoid doing it, but anymore nobody notices!

Nah! It's "PC" because if the left-lane road hog happens to be driving the speed limit, he is "following the law" and the "speeder" should just go to hell. Never mind the fact that traffic conditions and road will safely allow a somewhat faster speed.

The "lane courtesy" rule above and "go with the flow" are actually far safer.

It's liberal PC because someone blocking the left lane while toeing the established government and insurance industry line ('speed kills') seems to think they know better what's good for you than you can choose for yourself. And by the way- I haven't noticed any posts on this board related to the amount of money insurance companies, not just municipalities, make off of trumped up speeding fines...

The long and short of it is that a speeding ticket is issued for an absolute and objective 'violation' of the law- There's no arguing the fact that 75>65=Ticket. The more left lane laws we see the more you'll notice lawyers specializing in defending the cretins who violate them. After all, who needs personal responsibility and good judgement when the ATLA has your back?

My motto when driving: You don't need to drive like you're in a hurry, but you should always drive like the guy behind you is.
