Even though I'm out here in Virginny, I took the liberty of starting a reporting thread. Can't wait for the reports to start rolling in.

If Lamar loses, expect Bryant to get the "Schundler" treatment from the Bush administration and fellow TN "moderate" GOPers.

Conservatives have been coming out of the woodwork in Tennessee ever since '94; that was truly a watershed year in "Volitics" (just coined that term! Like it?) even though it brought us Don Taxquist along with Senators Frist and Thompson, and Rep. Van Hilleary.

That's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. I can guarantee you that Bush will do a fundraiser for Bryant and that he will stump for him. Bush wants control of the senate.

And stop with the Schundler treatment stuff. I'm tired of hearing delusions from people that think that Bush could have saved Schundler. I really like Schundler. I just think he should have run for governor of Virginia last year. There were many problems with Schundler's candidacy-- his missteps and the ideology of the state to name two. Whether TN has unity problems is not related to anything Bush does. It's because there has been a very public and heated debate over the income tax issue between those two groups in the GOP.

Please prominently post this on the sidebar so we don't have 3 or 4 of these. This should be the official one for tonight. It will get heavy traffic.

Not a chance. There's too much riding on this TN Senate race. And Bryant has plenty of powerful Pubbies lining up behind him.

Nothing like a good ad hominem attack to elevate the tone of the discourse, eh?

Yeah Bush is really going all out for conservative candidates all over the country. Riiight. Sorry but if he's going to be doing anyone favors it'll be for the Liddy Dole type.

He has NO proof to back up his claim that Bush doesn't support all 2002 GOP senate nominees. That is his allegation-- that Bush will just ignore the fact that there is a senate race in TN this year. It's a laughable accusation. Bush hasn't interfered with the primary in TN because he thinks both are credible nominees.

I don't think so. Bryant gets credit for being one of the House presenters in the impeachment trial. The public may have forgotten, but nobody on Capitol Hill has...

Ask Bill Simon if President Bush helped him out. Or John Thune. Or Cornyn in TX...

Which senate nominees-- which is what we're talking about on this thread-- has Bush not fully supported this year? He has supported Dole's candidacy because only someone with her name ID can win as a Republican in NC. You can be in denial about that if you want. The proof is that should Dole lose, only the Labor Commissioner will be a Republican out of all statewide-elected positions in 2003. That's pretty piss poor. Many here at FR believe NC is like Wyoming where an "R" after your name guarantees you'll win your election.

Actually, Bush -did- recruit LAMAR! to run for the Senate. Regardless, I'll be voting for Ed Bryant later today, and if he does not win, for LAMAR! in the Fall. Also Van Hilleary for Gov.

He did not recruit Alexander. That's a myth.

The White House was supportive of his running-- especially since they didn't know who was going to be running in the primaries for both parties (Lamar was the first to announce) and they were happy someone who'd actually won a major race was getting in (they also knew that a strong Democrat like Tipper or Al Gore could have gone after the nomination). That's entirely different from your alleging that the WH recruited him and supports him over Bryant.

Schundler ran a great campaign in the primary and then ran scared during the general election. He has no one to blame but himself and the corrupt republicans in the state house.
