As we endeavor toward a more lucid and informed discussion of substance abuse, let's deconstruct the mystique of marijuana and recognize it for the dangerous drug that it is.

Marijuana is a substance that's worthy of our concern. It is the most prevalent of all illicit drugs used in the country. The 2000 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse reported that 34 percent of Americans have used marijuana in their lifetime and 5 percent are current users.

My single biggest accomplishment in my life will be kicking pot and cigarettes at the same time.

Bless you.

Unfortunately, to many libertarians you're nothing but a "traitor."

And your evidence to the contrary is...

Sixty-eight pages of bibliography listing hundreds of government and privately funded studies found in "Marijuana Myths and Marijuana Facts" by Lynn Zimmer, Ph.D and John P. Morgan, MD. published by the Lindesmith Center and favorably reviewed by Bill Buckley and the National Review.

What's your's, besides the article?

A2J, you forgot, LadyDoc, and a bunch of other heads stuck in the sand, WOD'ers.

You're just jealous.

Even with our heads in the sand, we can easily out think your pot-damaged grey matter.

Not my statement dimwit.

You think Judge Francis Young is a pothead?

Not your statement but you tried to use it to make a point.

Like I said before how many people do you know who even eat one raw potato. Not many, your argument is called a non-sequiter, red herring, etc. etc.

Judge Young may not be a pot head, but he is a dimwit, IMHO, by using a non-sequiter as an arguement.

Anything you inhale IS going to be somewhat harmful.

What about oxygen?

Smoking marijuana is a victimless crime, rape is not. For you to equate the two is a perfect illustration of the disingenuousness of woddie arguments.

Let me help keep your illusion intact… Ahhh what was the question, I forgot. Hehe.

I know the destruction of addiction.

Then why do you support it through the promulgation of marijuana?

Good description of the life of a chronic MJ smoker. I've been there, too, although maybe not quite as bad. I was never a very outgoing person in the first place, so pot didn't make a big difference that way to me. And I've never experienced the panic attacks you describe.

Having said all that, would you agree that most people who use pot do not go on to this kind of chronic usage? (Although, among older users chronic users make up a larger percentage, as opportunities for use and availability tend to decrease as you get older). In fact, I would say most people can take it or leave it. Some of us have addictive personalities. If not for pot I would drink a lot more often. Oh, and one more thing, I would have to note that several of the negative effects of chronic use that you describe are more the result of its illegality than of the substance itself.

What's your opinion, does the current regime of illegality have a positive or negative effect?

IQ BOOSTS SEEN IN SOME LIGHT MARIJUANA USERS

Young adults who smoke small amounts of marijuana - between one and five joints per week - may temporarily raise their IQs, says a study published recently in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. However, those in the study who smoked more than five joints weekly, considered to be heavy users, saw their average IQ drop by 4.1 points. The light users had an average IQ increase of 5.8 points.

So, it's your contention that the vast majority of the people involved in this study are people who have been ordered by the court to receive treatment.

Not a contention, baldfaced fact. Dispositions in drug cases are a matter of public record. Go look 'em up. No one turns themselves in for cannabis use, unless they are hooked on a hard drug. Cannabis is as easy to stop smoking as hot fudge sundaes are to stop eating. Educate yourself.

Boy, the extent that pro-potties will go to in order to trash anyone who disagrees with you. Awful Democratic of you.

Trashed by facts? Oh, the HORROR!
