Intended as pure satire only. This is not a real article IOW
Dateline Feb 30,2009
Department of Unification and Re- Education
Washington, DC
This is an imediate release to all offical offices and departments of the government. {may it grow in power and prosper}
All offical forms, writs, and documents will contain the joint statement as listed below. Your government {may it grow in power and prosper} has decided for you that rather than any one person feel any lesser for not understanding or being able to write English will add the following statement to be as a memorial to the culture we the government your overseer {may it grow in power and prosper} hold in contempt.
Inglese nous non Notwendigkeit não estúpido English
For the illiterate Americans this says. "English, we don't need no stinking English."
I wrote it as satire but considering the second and third generation Americans were are having to translate everything from door signs to official documents to their spoken language I find it fitting for the occasion listed above. Where does it stop?

I applaud this move by the Justice Department....My wife teaches high school math in a school district just north of Houston. She has, for the last 3 years, taught "Gifted and Talented". Almost without exception, her best and brightest students are Vietnamese. Sadly, the parents of these students seldom show up for "open house" or even when their children win math awards. These parents are too embarrassed by their halting English (to be honest, they don't want to embarrass their children), or they can't some to school events because they work....work.....work....
The Vietnamese population, with its emphasis on work,
family, honesty, and a consistent anti-abortion stance, is ripe for Republican inroads. This is one decision that may
very well backfire on the Dems!

Doesn't citizenship require English proficiency any more?

FYI, the VAST majority of Vietnamese immigrants vote Republican. Last I heard (And my wife is Vietnamese, so I am a bit immersed in the culture) somewhere around 80% of those that vote, vote with us. Many of the immigrants are catholic, and as for family values, they put most cultures to shame. Remember, most came here to flee a communist regime, which they hate.
Please think before you post.

English seems to be a dying language!

So you tell me - how are these intelligent hard-working non-English-speaking folks going to figure out who to vote for?
More to the point, how are they goinig to figure out anything whatsoever related to our Constitution, our form of government, our traditions and ideals?
Or will they simply substitute Vietnamese "ideals"?

The silver lining in this is that asians, including Viet Namese mostly vote Republican. Many are entrepreneurs and have strong family values.
The older ones remember that Democrat politics lost their country to the communists, and Republican politicians ensured that they could escape to live free in in the US.
I can still remember when the Houston Viet Namese veterans came to protest alongside our US Viet Nam veterans outside the ChiCom consulate, when the ChiComs refused to let our P-3 crew go. After that protest made the evening news, the ChiComs let our boys go the next day. Coincidence, maybe, but VN-US veteran solidary is real, especially in Houston.

Outrageous...but not surprising.

English seems to be a dying language! This sort of madness is going on in the UK as well....except Urdu seems to be the invading language.
I wonder how long it will be before we have to allow them to serve dog meat in restaurants here as well?
To: HennepinPrisoner
Thanks for the ping. I agree that it is outrageous but what can you do about it? Our government is hell bent to destroy everything that is American.
But fear not because they are all going to vote republican and the ballots won't cost us but a few million dollars anyway. [/sarcasm]
When does the next plane leave DFW for Scotland?

When does the next plane leave DFW for Scotland? Is it sooner than the next flight from LAX to Perth, Australia? If so, book me a ticket.

These people shouldn't have become citizens if they can't speak English. They ought to be deported, not dispatched to voting booths.

These people shouldn't have become citizens if they can't speak English. Amen! And please don't think I am being discriminatory...if a mexican immigrant can't speak English, he/she should ALSO get their butt kicked out of this country.

How true and discussed on other threads. Immigrants that flee communism overwhelmingly tend to vote pubbie. They *know* what the dims are and that they're the same scary people they left behind!
