I am a small business owner who sells a variety of products online. I have some that are of particular interest to conservatives and republicans (political orientated novelty products). Anyone know of a good place to advertise that can reach a large audience of conservatives? I'm aware of newsmax but it seems they put all of their advertising at the bottom and jumbled together. I want people to actualy be able to see and click on my ads

Sure, Overture has lost some business, but pound for pound they still provide the best reach bar none. The Google product has potential but many many bugs, and other than AOL, they don't have close to the number of partners that Overture has. MSN and Yahoo are locked into Overure for the next several years, and the deal Google gave AOL and ASsk Jeeves is not sustainable and it's likely they'll make very little if any profit from it.. Don't be surprised if Google gets purchased by AOL, although with their recent troubles Google may not get the exit strategy they're hoping for.
My money is with both of them, but Overture is far more cost effective. BTW, I have over 6000 search terms out there and have been doing this since 98, so I kind of have the hang of it.

Does Oveture limit you? With Googles system if certain words you are bidding for don't get a 1% clickthrough rate they cancel them. Some of my best words were ones with like .3% on VERY HIGH volumes (ammounting to more than 5% on small volume) but google wouldn't let me do that for more than a day or 2

No Limits with Overture. It's up to you to decide what to bid. That's just one of the annoying Google glitches.

5000 impressions, not hits. I wouldn't advertise on Newsmax again.

That's ridiculous. If they haven't lowered their rates I don't understand how an advertiser can advertise with them. Either your product was marketed very poorly and others on there are getting a return or they experience high advertising turnover and rely upon small business owners to be their suckers (probably the latter).

Newsmaz is always changing their ad policy, and I took my banner ad with them 2 years ago. Their policy is likely different -- but still very pricey.
