I was just curious why they need 18 helicopters to airlift 9 men. Keith in Iowa gave a good answer up in #324.

Flying "spares", you would be amazed at how many helicopters are used for VIP missions, this is a special kind of VIP mission.

Several reasons. Med Chopper crews are trauma experts. It may be their trauma skills on standby more than the chopper itself. There are rescuers workers there as well. It is normal protocol in many areas to have medical teams standby during resuce operations for the rescuers themself.
