I'm not trying to be pessimistic at all. If the integrity of the shaft holds, they should be okay, but it's long and slow, right? An hour going either way? Then to have to decompress, if that's still an issue. Is it? Were they able to equalize the pressure. The bends is serious stuff.

While interviewing the governor Geraldo called him "dude".

Geraldo interviewed the Gov. earlier tonight on FoxNews, and I'm sure they've chatted off-camera. Like him or not, Geraldo is Clintonesque in the way people like him - and he can get people to say things to him that they might not say to another reporter.

If he goes....I'm betting it will be ONLY under the condition that there be no reporters or cameras.

I still remember how GW didn't hog the spotlight (like you-know-who) when the aircraft crew came home from China.

They still have the other shaft if they need it... They were working on two shafts until the equipment broke... They stated they could get more equipment there in a hurry if they have too... As long as the food and stuff is on the way down they should be okay don't you think?

Hehe! I remember when I came home from very long deployments. I could do no wrong, and a king did not live any better.

"You're right Bush should (visit Somerset)... Not to make it political but he only lost PA by a few votes in 2000..."

And he won West Virginia by a few votes in 2000 - and guess what many of the fine folks in WV do for a living? Mine coal would be the right answer. And they will remember. Just hope some folks at the White House are on the same wave-length.

(he should not go for political reasons - that is something Clinton would do. W should go because it is the right thing to do - any political gain/loss is beside the point, but in this case helpful.)

"I agree so very much. GW should be there when the men are brought out, or directly afterwards. He may be a distraction while they're concentrating on bringing them out."

I disagree. That's something that Clinton would do! Always trying to hog the limelight. This incident has nothing to do with GW. He should just send his congrats when they get those guys out of mine.

He could call the governor... Wouldn't that be low key enough?

Yes, I think the gov, or some guy said it was an hour per man, plus the emt , Have to get them in the carriage, up to surface, back down load up again. I really don't know if they mean an hour up, and an hour down. Very well could be.

Did you hear the part where he asked the Gov. to run for office and volunteered to be his campaign manager? And the Gov. said 'I may take you up on that'.

This is the first opportunity I've had to hear the Governor and I've been very impressed. Not a smooth talker, but honest and sincere and not afraid to get his hands dirty.

You're right. President Bush should visit the site sometime in the middle of next week, after all of the miners have had time to recuperate. The last thing they need right now is all of the Secret Service detail descending on the rescue site to prepare for the president's arrival.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to send some type of video address to the site after the ninth miner has been rescued, though.

Much to the contrast of Sweiker, Levanthal, and MSNBC's Robert Hagar.

Bob Hagar is a national asset, if not a national treasure.

Bob Hagar did more responsible reporting in the second week of March, 1983 (a date picked at random) than Jerry Rivers will EVER do: past, present AND future.

Geraldo's purple prose dripping with emotionalism has me seriously thinking of taking out a lawsuit against Fox. If an obese man can sue McDonalds for fat content, I should be allowed to sue Fox for their unheathy sugar coated news reports.

Then to have to decompress, if that's still an issue. Is it?

As I understand it, the pressure has been reduced enough that it's not an issue. I believe the airlock has been removed.

A number of years ago, Whorealdo was on one of the local morning radio drive time shows as a guest. After he left, the female half of the morning show said (And I couldn't make stuff like this up) "That man is built like a tile bathroom". I have no clue what she was trying to say and was laughing too hard to hear her explanation.

They would only have to decompress if the air had been under a lot of pressure. When they broke through it appeared they didn't need the air seal after all. If that is the case, the pressure wasn't all that high and nitrogen in the blood (the "bends") likely won't be a problem they have to deal with.
