The theft occurred in June of 2001... Ricci and other people were let go as Ed did not who stole from them. Then Ricci was already in the deal with Ed over the Jeep. Ricci was allowed to work in the home again so that the debt of the Jeep could be paid off. Ricci worked for Ed at a rate of $8.00 hour. So I assume that if the agreed price on the Jeep was for example $2000.00 then Ricci had to work for at least 250 hours in the home. Chances are they Jeep was sold for that $2000.00 as it is worth more than that at this day and age. Ricci was let back in due to the debt on the Jeep and Ed needing someone to finish the work. Ricci employment ended in the home in September of 2001 (I heard Ed say this on TV during in a media conference right after Ricci's name broke in the news) The debt was on the Jeep was paid off at that time.

I understand what you are saying, but that contradicts what I saw i.e. Ed saying all three were fired at the same time and none were hired back, even though Ricci came around later and asked for the job back.

Sorry for the typo's as always. I am feeling under the weather. I just had to put another pet asleep today. I had to put another one asleep last week.

What I wrote is my true understanding of what happened. I know Ricci was working in the home as of September 2001. 3 months after the theft occurred. Ricci was fired, but was let back in. I assume he talked his way back in and Ed knew he needed the work done and Ricci had the Jeep and was trying to work off the payment on it. No charges were taken on the theft because they did not know who the thief was and the police would have had to search each of the workers homes. Ricci gets arrest on June 14th, his alibi on the night of the kidnapping is not holding up. Ricci house is inspected and they find items in it were stolen from the Smart home and reported in June of 2001. I am sure they confronted Ricci with what they found in his home and he was caught red handed and made the confession of stealing the goods from the Smart home. Then Ed Smart is told by police what they found in Ricci home and that Ricci confessed to stealing from the family home.

I remember at some point they were looking into the 3 people that Ed Smart released after the theft and Ricci lied and told Ed he had passed a police polygraph.

Wow, think of that, a burglary took place in the Smart home.

Recci was one of the men working when it took place,

he let them all go,

Recci had hours to work off on a car of Smarts,

and Mr. Smart reconsider's because he had promised Richard he could work off the car,

and let's him come back into the house and work !

even tho at the time, he wasn't sure if Richard was the one who did the burglary?
