I gotta say that I'm not much for "new" country music at all, it's just a bunch of pretty faces dancing around with mic's strapped to their heads, which is why I found ole Hank III refreshing. I like his songs that make fun of these people. I like his renditions of his grandad's and dad's material.
but my favorite part of his show is:
"I see more black t-shirts than cowbly hats out there, hang tight folks, I gotta play country if I wanna get paid... OK folks, the country set is over, if you came here to see loud, abusive, distorted rock & roll, hang tight... if you came for the country, get the $*%& out while you still have the chance!!!"
Shelton is an up-and-coming talent, to be sure. I think he's more talented than Bocephus (even before every Hank, Jr. song became a caricature/self-parody), and sounds a lot like his granddaddy.
I know - I love rock and country, and Hank III gives me the best of both worlds. Did you hear that he's playing bass right now in a metal band with Pantera's Phil Anselmo?
