Evening! No really new news to report, except that KTVX (4Utah!) is standing by their story of Dea Ann Newhouse's affadavit. They showed a copy of it on TV and her lawyer talked. David Smith, Ricci's lawyer, and formerly Newhouse's lawyer, just issued a denial that he told anyone to get rid of any evidence. I'm out looking for the affadavit right now, it is pretty interesting.

>>I didn't catch the news on the other two channels, my mom called, and by the time I got off the phone, the news had moved on...
Puhleeze, Utah Gal, between the cat fights and the phone calls you're always missing stuff. Spiritual warfare I guess, maybe I should pray for you and not complain ;?)
>>...they showed a copy of the affadavit in the story tonight...
This is what I'm looking forward to seeing, I hope they publish it on their website tomorrow.
>>So she is sticking by her story, her new lawyer showed up, said he got the affadavit as quickly as he could, and sent it to the local FBI office, the DA, and someone else, now I can't remember who. I was kind of surprised it wasn't the SLPD.
I believe her story. Her sister has to have a new fence. There is no way she would make up a story like this and risk going to jail over it, there's nothing in it for her unless it's true and leads to Ricci's conviction which will earn her reward money maybe. I can't figure out the cold shoulder she got today from the SLPD sergeant, the FBI spokesman, and the DA office representative? There are a lot of mysteries in this case to me.
>>The one thing that really bothers me this evening is the deleted email.
I have a couple of theories on the email. Theory 1) Ed Smart heard through the grapevine about a something going on between Ricci's attorney and someone else and their attorney about a sighting of Ricci 2 days after the kidnapping in Wyoming. He can't get anything out of SLPD about it so he makes up this story about the missing email of someone who saw Ricci two days after the kidnapping putting a fence in for a neighbor in Wyoming and asks them to contact him. Not wanting to lose out on being first in line for the reward money Newhouse immediately goes to her lawyer and gets the affidavit officially submitted before this other person can get their claim in. I don't think it's a coincidence Ed put this story out and Newhouse just happened to submit this affidavit a few hours later.

What do you think the big hurry was, if it wasn't to beat out this person that had emailed Ed Smart for the scoop to get the award money. I think Ed Smart is smart like a fox. I don't think he ever got an email, he just got wind of what was going on and wanted to draw her out.

Interesting theory about the email. I don't know how much LE shares with the families of abducted children. It is very frustrating to the Smarts probably to have all this media attention, and help, and they're not any closer to finding Elizabeth than they were right after she was abducted. Of course, Utah is now a bit safer because the police are reeling in Ricci and associates. I'll be the homeowners are now checking into the backgrounds of everyone they have doing work on their homes.
And LOL on your comments about my cats and my mom. It seems whenever I want to hear something on the news, I get interrupted...

I've been reading that thread. Sounds like the police have a positive DNA match, Avila was acquitted last year of molesting his girlfriend's daughter and her cousin. California would have DNA evidence on file...

I hope they come out with some kind of national or at least state networks for checking backgrounds like this.

One of my sisters is an office manager for a house contractor. I asked her about their sub-contracted employees, they make them have several references, and they are checked out. She also says that they won't hire anyone but licensed people, and that some homeowners try to get stuff fixed and pay unlicensed people less money to fix whatever around the house. Sure was eye-opening to me. I've learned several things from the Smart case, not to disturb the crime scene until the police get here is another little nugget of knowledge.

Yep, I think the police are stymied in the Smart case. I think they thought Ricci was their man, and there sure is a lot of circustantial evidence. But they haven't caught any breaks in the case. Very sad.
And I'm off to bed, it has been a looooong week for me.

Hope I'm wrong and a break comes soon as SLCPD are just grasping at straws at this moment.
They only thing I can figure is SLCPD thinks Ricci and the kidnapper abducted Elizabeth for a 3rd party who might have Elizabeth (i.e. pornographers). They may want to look like they have nothing on Ricci and don't know who the kidnapper is so the party holding Elizabeth feels comfortable and doesn't do anything to her we would all regret while LE scrambles to find out who has her so they can get her back safely. This is greatly far fetched, I know, but it's the only thing I can think of that makes sense.
