We were spared the spectacle of an O.J.-type circus.

Lindh's lawyer spared his client life sentences he perceived as certain.

America needs to dispel its timidity and ignorance and acknowledge:

Lindh's conduct could easily have satisfied the four elements of the crime of treason as defined by the Supreme Court of the United States: (1) intent to betray the United States, (2) which could be inferred from the requisite overt act, (3) testified to by two witnesses, (4) that gave aid and comfort to the enemy.

Nah. Lindh was just an idiot teenager who got in over his head. The rest was patriotic outrage looking for a place to come down hard.
