Note that the shoe bomb didn't use C-4--it used PETN, which is much wimpier. It wouldn't have worked.

But there were numerous witenesses insisting they saw, and some heard, an explosion and/or fire near the middle of the fuselage.
Also, any debris from an explosion would land before the tail came down, not in Jamaica Bay, or at least not in the same part of the bay, so if there is a smoking gun in the form of another debris field, it isn't in the same place as the tail.

With all the witnesses complaining that they SAW an EXPLOSION, just which lack of evidence of a bomb are you referring to?

The shoe bomb would not produce an explosion of that magnitude. That's the problem.

My flight 93 web site has disappeared, www.flight93crash.com. Whadya mean, 'it disappeared'?
Please explain.
To: Poohbah
You may be right. An Al Quaida op tried to take down a 747 with an improvized explosive a while ago and failed, but did kill one passenger. Some work, some don't. That's why they keep trying. WTC '93 didn't do the job, either.
So you were saying... why should I trust commercial aviation security to be able to stop the next attack?

but it was a shoe bomber OK lets do what investigators do. Take each possibility and rip it to pieces. Does anyone remember the seat number of Richard Reid ?
Are there any Freepers out there with the names and seat numbers of passengers of this flight. Could there have been a foriegner or middle east man sitting in the same seat number, was he on any watch list etc.

Glad to see that some of us out here haven't forgotten this story...or how badly it smells. I guess the FBI hasn't been able to doctor the video from the traffic camera suffiently to release it to the public yet like they said they would "when the investigation is complete."
On a related issue...does anyone know where Richard Reid was sitting on the plane when he tried to set off his shoe bomb? I'll bet that it was very close to the wing...where the explosion was seen on flight 587! I said it on the other threads and I'll say it again on this one...Reid was shoe-bomber #2. The first one was on flight 587. Why would someone try to set off a bomb hidden in his shoe in the middle of the passenger compartment instead of in the restroom where he could have locked the door and the other passengers couldn't have stopped him? Because setting it off in the restroom would not gaurantee the destruction of the plane. But set off a few ounces of C4 directly over the fuel tank (near the wing) and if you dont ignite the fuel tank directly, it will at least sever the fuel lines and most likely weaken the structural integrety to the point where the plane will start to break apart.

Move along boys.....This is just the NTSB version of cooking the books.

My flight 93 web site has disappeared, www.flight93crash.com. What did your ISP have to say about your site? Did 'someone' lean on them to take it down? Since you own the domain, why not just put it up on some foreign ISP, beyond 'someone's reach?
For the site as of last January, click here.
BTW, did the Somerset County assessor notice any effect on property values resulting from the crash?

>>...Likewise, in thig case they did, in fact see the plane engulfed in a fireball, but that is because they saw it AFTER it hit the ground and then bounced high in the air, making it look like it caught on fire before it ever hit the ground...<<
Pardon me, but I find this rather hard to believe.
You're saying that the plane "bounced" after hitting the ground and THEN the witnessess saw the middle of the fuselage on fire?????
In all the films/videos of air crashes (at air shows, etc) I've NEVER seen a plane "bounce" intact enough where an eyewitness would REMOTELY think they were witnessing an event PRIOR to a crash. Sheesh.
You were right the first time: The Bounce Factor is BM.

The shoe bomb would not produce an explosion of that magnitude. That's the problem.
Wasn't the operative theory that the shoe bomb would have caused a secondary explosion in the fully loaded center fuel tank?
IIRC, that's where Richard Reid was sitting, right over the tank.
That said, I don't know why #587 came down... but neither does anyone else. If the stories of the witnesses in this article are genuine (as far as their dealings with the NTSB), it's not going to help put the matter to rest whenever the official findings are released.

To the best of my recollection he was seated directly over the wing ( fuel tank ).
To: Sabertooth
how about the shoe bomb, combined with the stresses of taking off, plus throw in some worn metals, or any combination of events? Sure, a shoe bomb could do it.
Have the passenger lists been released in full?
